Description
When active, aura damages the undead and knocks them back.
Area damage increases at closer range.
This skill works on super unique undead ( Bonebreaker, Creeping Feature, Bonesaw Breaker etc.), but not on bosses ( Griswold, Radament).
Steal Life/Mana items work well with Sanctuary Aura against immune to physical undead monsters as long as they have positive drain effectiveness. Sanctuary Aura does significant damage against the undead compared to other auras because it ignores the 50% damage resistance, which nearly all undead monsters have in Hell difficulty.

Lore
This aura causes the Paladin to shine with an inner, holy light. This light is an anathema to the undead, summoned as they are through the machinations of the Prime Evils.
The aura carries with it the essence of life and the strength and purity of the Paladin's convictions.
Can be used to make Runewords:

Notably, this aura is granted by the 1-handed sword, Azurewrath.
Useful in areas with large groups of undead mobs, such as Chaos Sanctuary.
For Example:
The knockback from the aura is useful against enemies such as, Oblivion Knight and Finger Mage.
Sanctuary Aura will pulse and knock back enemies away from the player. With a little positioning you can use this to your advantage and keep enemies pinned to walls.
Even works against Super Uniques like Lord De Seis and Grand Vizier of Chaos!
This can be helpful to run in and snipe the Super Uniques first, as Lord De Seis always has Fanaticism Aura.
My personal use of this weapon has been in the off-hand slot of my Whirlwind Barbarian. I use Grief in my main-hand slot, however. This is a good balance of damage and utility that allows me to quickly kill the mobs before they damage me too much.

The Runeword Lawbringer (swords, hammers, scepters with 3 sockets) grants a lvl 16-18 Sanctuary Aura.

Blizzard wrote: Sanctuary Aura
- Damage scales based on distance to the caster. Aura will deal double damage at melee range and linearly scale to normal damage at maximum range
- Tooltip: The maximum Area Damage values now incorporate the maximum proximity damage bonus
Khegan wrote: 2 years ago The DR% piercing effect is reserved only for the unit supplying the aura, and it simply ignores DR% instead of removing it completely. Also note that crushing blow does nothing against physical immune undead even with the aura active.
