Larzuk Sockets Calculator for D2R & RotW 3.3

This tool allows you to calculate how many sockets
Larzuk
will give to any chosen Base item in D2R or RotW 3.3 - providing you also know the name of the Monster this item dropped from, the Area it dropped in, and the difficulty. It also supports chest/clickable drops.

How the Larzuk socket calculation works
Larzuk
will always give the maximum number of possible sockets to a Base item. Max sockets are based on the ilvl of the item, which is based on the mlvl of the monster that dropped the item. If the item drops from a chest or other clickable, then the item's ilvl is determined by the alvl of the area, and whether it dropped from a stand/rack or not.

The mlvl of a monster is normally equal to the area's alvl, but varies depending on a number of factors: the game difficulty, if the monster is a Unique (or Minion of), a Superunique, a Champion/Possessed/Fanatic/Ghostly, a Berserker type, and whether whether the area is terrorized - in which case the game creator's character level is also required.

In cases where the area is terrorized, the alvl (and mlvl for non-superunique and champion monsters) is determined by the game creator's clvl (providing that clvl is not less than the alvl was already at this difficulty). A modifier based on the difficulty and monster type is then applied, and is capped to a set amount per difficulty. This also applies to chest/clickable drops.

Needless to say, if you want a precise socket calculation, provide as many details as you can in the form!
Larzuk provides this service as a reward for completing the
Siege on Harrogath
quest. This means that each character has just three opportunities (one per difficulty) to make use of his socketing service. 'Larzuk Rushes' are often advertised by other players, provided for a small fee, or for free if you're lucky. You can find a list of such services advertised below this explainer.

Note that Unique, Set, Crafted, or Rare items will always receive just 1 socket from Larzuk. For Magic items, there is always a 50%/50% chance of receiving either 1 or 2 sockets from Larzuk. For information on
Horadric Cube
socketing recipes - which behave differently from Larzuk socketing - please visit the Socketing Recipes page.
