So adding an ethereal
Poleaxe
to my act 2 merc dident add the damage I suspected.
Does it not ad 50% on these mercs?

Also on the players character screen does the damage show a correct total with all elemental included in the numbers? Also added ethereal?

An
Eth
based weapon, damage wise, it has already got bumped as a base damage increase.

One regular weapon that has 100 base damage,
Eth
base will have 150.

So the damage adds to the base value rather than a seperate modifier. Then the base damage will go through different modifiers and reflected on the final damage output.

Yes and no. D2 stats are known to be deceiving. Go and search lying stats d2r kind of keyword on youtube and you will know.

These inaccuracies are (or at least were in legacy D2, before D2R fixes) so common that a term "LCS" was coined - Lying Character Screen.

To sum up, yes, whenever possible use ethereal stuff for your merc.

Grief is a good example. There are plenty of others.
