Diablo2.io 1.57 Update - Instant Chat, bug fixes, and improvements!

No data yet

New ladder-only stats in 3.3

Description

diablo2.io v1.57 has been successfully deployed! :D
This update introduces the instant chat feature - I'll get onto that in just a moment. The patch also addresses many of the feature requests and bugs reported in by you guys. I've also take made a considerable effort on performance optimisation this time around. If you're looking for other development logs (before and after 1.57) then click here. Okay here we go!

Instant Chat

You can now open a one-to-one instant chat with another diablo2.io user.
This allows you to send quick messages back and forth - for example game/pw info when executing a trade.
The Instant Chat feature in use
The Instant Chat feature in use
  • You do not need to refresh your browser window to see new chat messages - they arrive asynchronously, on any page of the site.
  • To open a chat with another user, click the 'Chat' button on their profile, or from their trade listing, or a post on a listing.
  • You can configure notifications via board, email, or push, which fire when you receive a new chat message. Defaults to all three.
  • Chat message-related board/email/push notifications only fire if you're inactive - either offline, or online and AFK etc.
  • You can squelch and un-squelch traders directly from the chat window's menubar by clicking the icon.
  • Traders you have squelched cannot send you chat messages and see 'This user has chosen not to receive chat messages at this time.'
  • There is a flood limit of 2 seconds between individual messages to prevent ping spam and protect performance.
  • You can report chat messages to moderators just like you can report posts or private messages.
  • Instant chat is not available for newly registered members (those with less than 1 approved, posted post).
  • Expanding and minimising chat windows persists through page views.
  • By default, new conversations auto-expand the chat's window, but you can choose for them to 'start collapsed' instead from your instant chat settings.
  • A short tone plays when a message arrives. You may need to give your browser permission to play audio for this website in order to hear it. You can turn this off from Account settings if you want (or from your browser permissions).
  • Messages older than 30 days are automatically deleted to save database storage.
  • You cannot edit or delete instant messages you have sent - only send, for now.
  • The browser shows as many chat windows as possible within the available viewport, and hides those that would overflow horizontally.
  • Messages are synced across every browser tab you have open of the site - chat windows update as soon as you focus the window.
  • If a window is hidden due to browser width and receives a new chat message, then it appears at the front of the stack.
  • Newly opened chats always appear to the left of the stack of chat windows, no matter where you open them from.
  • Instant chat works on mobile devices too, but you're limited to seeing one conversation at a time due to screen size.
  • You can see your most recent 10 chats by clicking the mini chat button in the bottom-right of the screen.
  • If you have a chat window less recent than the last 10, then you can re-open the chat window from their profile page.
  • You can entirely disable the instant chat feature if desired. Once disabled, no-one can send you chat messages.
  • BBcode is disabled in chat messages - they're plaintext only (though URLs will still render as hyperlinks).
  • Instant chat on d2io is bespoke code - not an existing library - so I know it's barebones right now and I'm open to feedback! It may also have some bugs - while I've tried my best to emulate all scenarios, it's hard to test something like this in a local environment.

Other Changes
  • Added a Statue Set pseudo item to the database for trading purposes.
  • Added a Shard Set pseudo item to the database for trading purposes.
  • Updated the Skill Tree Calculator to add the Warlock class.
  • Updated the Attack Speed Calculator to add the Warlock class. Warlock mainly uses Necro breakpoints except for the Cleave and Echoing Strikes skills - which are yet to be datamined in the first place and noted on the calc. Also brought some other Warren updates along with this update.
  • Updated Warlock skill database entry synergies and stats to catch up on what I missed in the last handful of patches.
  • Updated the relevant Unique and Set items that are going to receive new ladder-only stats in game version 3.3 with those new stats, and added a filter for these on the Uniques and Sets pages too.
  • The blue 'stats' area of database entries (when viewed via hover tooltip, entry page, or category page) now uses auto-linking. This allows tooltip links to render inline, for example, any skills granted by the item. Doesn't run on Skills stats themselves, as these are generic in-game descriptions. I have done a pass of on every item as well to avoid inadvertent linking.
  • Deckard Cain AI has been removed from the forums and is no longer accessible. He was a fun experiment - but clearly he wasn't very useful for much besides talking about game's Lore and making mistakes.
  • On trade listings, you can now see the time at which a listing was first posted, below the time the listing was last bumped. This useful piece of info was already available on other pages but not on the listing page itself.
  • When your listing auto-generates item stats from OCR, it will render the parent element at full height instead of cutting it off with an 'Expand' button. This ensures that all item stats are rendered upfront without an additional click being needed.
  • You can now edit the quantity of the item you sold after it was marked sold/before it is converted into price history.
  • In the dclone tracker, 'Last updated' column headers have been renamed to 'Last changed' for a more accurate representation of what the value in the column actually represents (the last time the status changed, since that is what D2emu sends via webhook).
  • You can now add a Steam friend code to your profile. If set, it appears in trade post footers just like other profile fields.
  • If it has been three days since the last comment on (or bump of) a trade listing, the trade listing is automatically frozen, not deleted. This means that if you miss your bumps for three days, or forget to freeze things before you go on holiday, or whatever happens, when you come back you can just unfreeze your expired listings. You don't have to wait for 12 hours after they were automatically frozen in order to unfreeze them - but this rule still stands if you manually freeze all your trades (you still have to wait 12 hours to unfreeze manually-frozen listings).
  • On the error page in which you get confirmation of deleting a listing, or when attempting to visit a topic that no longer exists, you are now given the option to return to your profile (instead of back to the non-existent topic).

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where the 'Syntax' button was mis-positioned on the Search Trades page.
  • Fixed a bug where non-moderator users were seeing red/blue backgrounds on database category cards and forum topics when posts were deleted or pending approval.
  • Fixed a bug where after liking someone's post and waiting 60 seconds, a blank modal would appear on the screen.
  • Fixed a bug where user's without an avatar would show a broken image link on their holy grail profile, when viewed by others.
  • Fixed a bug on holy grail profile where the version selector was mispositioned on mobile.
  • Fixed a bug where deleting one's holy grail did not respect the version selector and defaulted to RotW.
  • Fixed a bug where selecting Linux as one's platform would automatically tag trade listings as Linux, which is not a filterable platform in the trade experience, resulting in their trades being hidden for everyone aka orphaned. If Linux is your profile field, your trades are automatically tagged as PC now, seeing as they are the same platform as far as the game itself is concerned. Any existing listings that were orphaned by this bug have been backfilled as PC platform.
  • Fixed a bug where the user live search was still returning legacy user hover tooltips, which were retired years ago.
  • Fixed a bug where user's details were not appearing on their profile page if they didn't have an in-game name populated.
  • Fixed a bug where the Harrogath Barb merc trade filter wasn't showing as an icon on stash tabs.
  • Fixed a bug where any of the four mercenary trade filters weren't being respecting while searching for trades.
  • Fixed a bug where browsing or searching for say 'Amulet's did not surface crafted items like Caster Amulet. This fix applies to all themes (Caster, Blood, Hit Power, Safety) and all their respective item types. Backfilled existing trades that were orphaned by this bug.
  • Fixed a bug where squelching a user would also hide that user's topics and posts in all other forums - made it so that it only hides that user's topics and posts in the /trade forum specifically.
  • Fixed a bug where the quantity input field was mis-positioned on the create/edit trade listing page.
  • Fixed a bug where the Jewels item type filter failed to be auto-selected when creating or editing a listing involving any unique jewel. Backfilled any existing trades of these items to have this item type filter set to Jewels.
  • Fixed a bug where manually selecting the Jewel filter when creating or editing a listing involving any unique jewel would overwrite the existing icon.
  • Fixed a bug where you would only receive the first notification when someone liked your post (and not receive notifications for subsequent likes of the same post).
  • Fixed a bug where a large variety of skills in the skill tree calculator would zero out stat calculations after level 28, due to missing breakpoint logic.
  • Fixed a bug where the ordering of skill trees in the skill tree calculator was reversed - trees follow the same order as in-game now.
  • Fixed a bug where password reset emails were not sending due to a conflict with an anti-spam function.
  • Fixed strength requirement on Horazon's Legacy and Dreadfang.
  • Fixed misleading stats on Bone Break, Latent Bone Break, and Renewed Bone Break.
  • Fixed negative target defense stat on Razortine.
  • Fixed missing required level for Flawless Sapphire and Perfect Sapphire.
  • Fixed incorrect set item bonuses for Horazon's Countenance and Horazon's Dominion.
  • Fixed incorrect variable fire damage stat on Naj's Circlet stats to make it a non-variable stat.
  • Fixed incorrect synergy on Eldritch Blast ( Psychic Ward seconds per level).
  • Fixed an incorrect number of items required for a set bonus on Bane's Authority.
  • Fixed missing physical damage reduction stat on Ars Tor'Baalos

Optimisations
  • Made fetching user online statuses more performant (less reliant on heavy session table queries) on a number of pages.
  • Made searching price history by keyword title/description (magic items) more performant.
  • Made random database items query more performant by ditching ORDER BY RAND() in SQL and using shuffle() results in PHP instead.
  • Made dropdown searches on a number of pages more performant by introducing a FULLTEXT index on topic_title.
  • Made like counts on the home page 'most popular pages' section more performant by batching queries instead of nesting them.
  • Made several performance optimisations to hover tooltips, database category pages, and database entry pages.
  • Made a separate file cache solely for the heaviest query areas (the item database) - to prevent it from re-building all the time along with the main file cache.
  • phpBB core was updated from 3.3.15 to 3.3.17 which refactored Oauth layer for improved security.
  • URL rewriting was refactored for better performance and stricter typing.
  • Web push notifications were updated to apply various fixes relating to Apple sleep rules.
  • Hoping the above improvements will greatly increase the site's load speeds, and its resilience under load.

Personal Comments
  • I started this sprint about a week ago. As always - time is the enemy - I could only fit into this sprint what I thought were the highest priority items from the backlog, feedback subforum, and bug reports subforum.
  • I really hope you enjoy this patch. If you have any questions then feel free to ask in this topic, or in the feedback/bug reports subforum. Good drops and fair trades to you all! Teeb
