Does -res from character gear apply for merc?

Yesterday I finally collected all 5 statues, geared my smiter, and went to bonk Uber Ancients. For my effort, I got this nugget - wanted cold, got physical, oh well.
Nevertheless, I plonked it into my Blizz Sorc's Occulus (want to get her to 99, so 3% exp ain't nothing, on top of some MF for good measure). However, I wonder: does the minus to enemy physical res apply to my merc attacks? It doesn't work the other way around (I googled), so I guess not, but maybe someone knowledgeable could confirm that for me?

Also - have anyone tried to put any of this new jewels into merc's gear, i.e. helmet? Maybe this thing could have a bit of a value in some unique helmet with life leech (

Not only, some pets inherit this from the character:
Enemy Resistance

• Hydra (fire),
• Blade Sentinel (fire, lightning, cold, poison),
• Charged Bolt Sentry and
  Lightning Sentry (lightning),
• Wake of Fire and
  Wake of Inferno (fire),
• Death Sentry (fire and lightning).

IIRC this also applies to Iron Golems and all kinds of other summoned pets if summoned while the sunder is in your inventory.
