+damage on shield

hey.

+damage on shields increasing only shield dmg ( Smite)? or it works on main weapon too? Will it work on kicksin?

It works just with paladin skills (because ed exists only on paladin shields)

Phoenix gives ED too.
Kicksin usually use Stormshield.

ED from shield give bonus to damage on main weapon too the same as the ED from Forti Armor.

You need to differentiate between shield dmg, +shield dmg and enhanced dmg on a shield.

For a paladin, every shield has an inherent amount of base damage. That damage applies only to Smite and not to normal weapon attacks like say Zeal.

In addition to that, you can add direct shield/ Smite damage (via e.g. Holy Shield). This damage effectively increases the base damage of the shield and also applies only to Smite and not to weapon damage.

What you can also get however is enhanced damage on a shield. This may for example be from Phoenix or literally any pally shield that rolls ED. This damage works the same way any other off-weapon ED does, meaning it will increase your Smite damage (not the base damage mind you) but it will also increase your damage from non-shield attacks like Zeal.

So basically, going back to the second part of your question:
- The base damage you see listed on a shield when you view it with a paladin will not apply to any other class and will not affect your kicksin.
- +dmg doesn't really apply to your kicksin as she has no Holy Shield or the like.
- If you're looking at ED on a shield (e.g. Phoenix), it will work for your kicksin. ED on pally shields would work in theory but doesn't in reality because your kicksin can't equip a pally shield.

You could also use the +damage type jewels on a socketed shield, potentially getting up to +120%, and could be used by anyone (who meets the strength requirements - 4os shields are heavy)

Atm I kinda thinking to go for Exile shield (yeah its pally only).

I am just struggling if I should get base with +enhanced dmg and AR or resists (need to check my current resists if I need or not).

My pala is zealot with few skills in Smite and basicly i do only ubers with him (I am not strugling there, I just wanna have - you know more than 1 aura active - kinda ego thing). So his main purpose is Ubers there I dont use Zeal (ofc sometimes I am bored and play him normally)

So to have like 50% ED for shield which dmg is 10-82 looks kinda not so much important (I know that those % are multiplying each other) but overall it can gives me like 50-100ish more dmg? - I just found this shield - it seems like decent base for Exile if AR and ED are worthy to go over all res (well for perfect roll +45res I can use 3xcharms with +15 each) - I have 1skiller only, so there are available slots in my "backpack". But I cannot do +50%ED via charms.

That question regarding kicksin it was about Phoenix. But its expensive so kinda faaaaaaaaaaar away. But your answer result in me better understanding of the game.

anyway I did some testing. HoZ upped (avg Smite dmg 46) against my Kurast Shield (avg Smite dmg 46). I even equip some items with +20str and +4skills so I would have same base dmg and same strenght and same level of Smite with only difference is 53% ED on my Kurast Shield:

168str, Smite lvl 13 (for both shields) no aura, no other gear, just shield and Smite
Kurast 46 - 380 dmg; avg: 236dmg which is 10%
HoZ 212 - 213dmg

fully geared up
HoZ: str 228, Smite 21, Fanaticism 29
- 540-541dmg

Kurast: str 208, Smite 18, Fanaticism 28 (well I put 2nd BK instead of Raven Frost to simulate +2offensive auras from Exile. Which gave me Fanaticism +17%, Smite +15% - so dmg is similar to +2 Fanaticism. With Exile I would have Smite 17, Fanaticism 29)
- 112 - 894 dmg; avg: 503dmg

Kurast: str 223, Smite 18, Fanaticism 28 (charms +str)
- 113 - 907dmg; avg: 510dmg

Conclusion: So HoZ has higher dmg than Exile. Am I correct?

When I thought I understood it then I unequip my Fortitude and difference was only 3dmg to min and max <- how is that possible?
fully geared up HoZ: str 228, Smite 21, Fanaticism 29
with Fortitude is 540 - 541
without Fortitude 537 - 538
??

Exile are made in ethereal elite paladin shields anyway.
And most use 40+ all resists bases.

yeah, but u can get Eth HoZ too, so base dmg should be same. and all %dmg will end is same result that HoZ is higher dmg than Exile (well if u compare Eth to Eth).

But you don't want an Eth HoZ, il will die. While Exile provides indestructible (or auto-repair, don't remember) mod so Eth is better. Everything you don't put in res means more charms like Sharp (+max damage / + attack rating) ones.

yeah I learnt that Grief dmg is added after i made my post. I wish they fixed it. Game already calculate with its dmg, so game know the real dmg, why not show us? ((

yeah, but thats why we have Zod runes. In this case it would be probably waste - no argue there.

Do you think that Exile in Eth vortex (noone is selling atm thats why I am thinking about my-found Kurast Shield or similar shields). Is worthy for ubers over HoZ ?

First, just to make things clear, Exile is a RW for shields.
Ergo it's for a piece of armor: ethereal-ness increase defense, not damage output.

The reason Exile are made on ethereal base is to maximize base defense, as the Defiance aura give is a huge boost in overall percent increase defense.
Now, as far as I know, people use vortex because it as the maximum possible base defense from all elite paladin shields.
Not that I agree at being the best base for Exile...
IMHO, the sacred targes are the best as the base block is the highest (while the base block of vortex are the lowest):
less dexterity for 75% block chance + less strength for equiping = much more vitality

Using a Zod on an ethereal HoZ is a bit of a waste, I would rather use HoZ for the extra resists and therefore socket an Um instead.
Exile is used mainly for Life Tap and the "free" Defiance aura.

I made my Exile in an Eth Sacred Targe with +43 all res. I use it solely for my Uber killing smiter, it’s awesome. With damage from Grief and crushing blow from Goblin Toe it kills Uber’s quickly while the res and Life Tap keep me alive. Uber’s are pretty ez with just those 3, then you can add on Gface, tgods and other stuff to make it a breeze.

My recommendation is all res in your shield, I went that way with no regrets

thanks didnt know that, I thought it increasing shield dmg as well.

So idea for Exile is that you dont have to use draculs and can go laying hands instead which increases ur dmg even more IAS and vs demons.

thats actually smart I never thought about it this way. But sadly I have only one Gore Rider Boots and I have kicksin, so I upped them 156str req.

I think I will do it your way. Due to price for cheaper base and more vitality.

so in order to get most out of my pala I have to:
1) get Eth sacred target for Exile
2) find/buy Gore Rider ir as nate mentioned Goblin Toe
3) respec

Laying of Hands +350% damage against Demons doesn't work with Smite though... BiS is crafted Blood Gloves for it's up to 10% CB.

As for a suitable base, the good ones are obviously as expensives as the RW itself (if not more for 45 resists ST): browsetrades.php?sk=t&sd=d&ladder=2&ira ... ype=Targes

Myself I see Hoz is a better (and cheaper) option than Exile.

30% Increased Chance Of Blocking
30% Faster Block Rate
20 To Strength to wear gear and add damage
Socketed with Um give a huge 77AllRes
And the + to Skill

Holy Shield give a massive defense so Defiance is not really necessary.
Drac gives ctc Life Tap too or you can use a life tape Wand.
