Protector's Stone is one of the possible rewards for beating the Uber Ancients in the Colossal Summit.
If Uber Korlic is the last Ancient you kill, you will receive either Protector's Frost or Protector's Stone.

You can have several of these jewels in your inventory, but you can only equip one item with such a jewel at a time. This makes the colossal ancient jewels similar to Gheed's Fortune, the Hellfire Torch or the Annihilus.

A slvl 15 Fade has the following properties:

Reduces curse duration by 79%
Physical Damage Recieved Reduced by 15%
Resist All: +61%
Duration: 288 seconds

Protector's Stone is affected by the %ed + min/max damage bug if socketed in an armor piece (more info). Until this bug is fixed, you should try to insert it into your weapon whenever possible.

For paladins utilizing Smite, remember that the "Adds 10-30 damage" does not apply to your Smite.

If you play an Assassin and want to use Burst of Speed or Fade, you shouldn't use Protector's Stone.
Whenever the chance to cast Fade from Protector's Stone is triggered, it will overwrite your previous instance of Burst of Speed or Fade (even if you previously had a higher level of Fade).
While this is easy to spot with Burst of Speed, it can remain unnoticed with Fade and lead to a quick death if your build depends on a high level of Fade for survivability.
