Probably the beetles Charged Bolt, poison damage from the mummies and areas like the maggot lair and Arcane Sanctuary can make A2 a bit rough when first starting the game.
Although, most people find Act 2 enjoyable compared to Act 3... xD
I only died when facing the boss before meeting Tyrael in the tomb. He 2/3 shot my mercenary and then I ran out of pots!
I did really enjoy the act, cool story line and some great looking zones. I'm considering going back to the tower in act one to farm some runes, is this a worth while exercise whilst gaining some additional levels for act 3?

Oh it was just Duriel? should've known. He is the destroyer of new player dreams. I guess i didn't think of him right off the bat because of the PTSD he's given me. Its better to forget...

Corpse running to get slowed and re-killed.... twice. And then he died to a DoT effect whilst I was dead so am sure I didn't even get the XP drop from him D:

Welcome to diablo 2 and the OG experience we all had with Duriel!
Since you are already 23+, I don't recommend grinding Act 2. IMO, the game gives you enough experience just playing through it until you get to Nightmare. Then you probably want to grind Baal or Cows before progressing.
If you don't have Stealth yet, then it might be worth farming Countess to get it.

I've only got Steel at the moment, i looked at Stealth but thought it looks more appropriate for a caster not barb or am i wrong?
For sorceress spam Static Field on bosses (-25% of target's hit points)
For Necromancer use Clay Golem and Iron Maiden curse
For Amazon Use Charged Strike (never Misses) then reset to bowazon later lvl 27 (you can give your merc Insight polearm for mana recovery aura Meditation)

Stealth is great for anyone early game, including melee characters. The FRW and FHR are excellent stats. It's really hard to beat in early game. Better armors will come eventually, but i wouldn't discount it. If you're going pure melee you might not need the FCR, but the other stats make it worth it.

Thanks for this! Looks like i'm already at the higher end for the act i've just started so i'll go get stuck in!
Ya but two things to keep in mind when it comes to XP farming:
1. if you look at the charts you still get great XP in previous act(s) even out of the "optimum" level range, so don't be afraid to hang out and over-level.
2. Getting 70% XP in a later Act will give you more overall XP than 99% in an earlier act. This is why people do Baal runs around lvl 25 despite only getting 67% of mob XP.
