So you would still choose Hellwarden over Harlequins Crest I assume? I'm planning to
Larzuk
one of them with an
Um
and throw 2 more Ums in
Measured Wrath
. My bolt will likely get changed out to a sigil of some sort. I was using Lethargy until it got super nerf'd so now I've been using Rancor which is pretty useful since Heralds drop on your head now
The only real reason to use
Shako
over hellwarden is if you're going for an MF-focused build and don't have access to the top-tier alternatives yet (e.g. +3/mf
Diadem
).
Since I for one don't focus that much on MF, I'd always go with hellwarden over crest.

Yes, crest does give a solid boost in mana and life as well but as a lock, you really don't need that imo. They end up with tons of life either way.
Yeah that makes sense

My
Abyss
Warlock uses a Hellwarden with -8% to enemy magic res because of the extra damage (it's more than the extra +1 from
Shako
) and the FCR.

Since I have Enigma, Gheeds and Uber jewel, I already have "enough" MF and the extra MF from
Shako
is almost negligible since my clear speed would be lower because of the lower damage.
Then of course,
Shako
also offers tons of flat +life. But my lock has tons of life anyway with
Consume
and CTA. So, this extra life is not needed.
Shako
has tons of flat +mana. Very nice for mana hungry builds like
Abyss
. But Hellwarden gives +4 - +6 mana after each kill and you usually kill at least 6-10 monsters with each
Abyss
so that is a lot of mana that you regain instantly after casting
Abyss
.

Abyss
has 10% phys damage reduction. Nice, but not really needed with my two big meat-shields (bound Dmeon and merc) and the tons of life that my Lock has.

So in total: Hellwarden wins for my
Abyss
Warlock if it has -8% enemy magic res and +5 or ideally +6 mana after each kill. It is socketed with a
Guardian's Light
.

My lock is softcore. If he were hardcore, I would probably rather go for
Shako
if I could afford to get enough FCR somewhere else.

Great breakdown. Thank you. Now that you mention it, I will probably save the socket for an Uber jewel as well but even at level 96 I still don't think I can compete with the newly upgraded colossals. I've been reading horror stories about them lately. Plus I still need statues from Act 2 and Act 3
