My Nova Sorceress --- With a twist

Recently i started a new character, a sorceress.

Previously, i had made the cold sorceress(blizzorb, Hydra + orb, pure blizzard), the fire sorc( Fireball, Hydra), and the lightning sorc( Chain Lightning, Nova, and Charged Bolt).

I play my Nova sorc the most, it clears the fastest and it is my highest level char. But the new char I made is similar to the Nova sorc in clear speed but can stack up some magic find, and is much less vulnerable to poison/stygian doll/ghosts, the Frost Nova sorc.

I wanted to share this build for anyone looking to play an off-meta sorc. It's very, very fun to play, and its survivability is higher than the Nova sorc without losing the clear speed. I can even put in some mf scs and fhr scs because i don't need the lite skillers.


My gear, if anybody wants to try:

Doom in Ettin Axe(i wanted to multipurpose this if I needed this for a melee char), socketed with a 5/5 Rainbow Facet: Cold Death
Spirit, 35% fcr in Monarch shield
Nightwing's Veil, socketed with a 5/5 Rainbow Facet: Cold Death
Mara's Kaleidoscope
Skin of the Vipermagi, socketed with a 5/5 Rainbow Facet: Cold Death
Trang-Oul's Claws
2x The Stone of Jordan
Arachnid Mesh
War travellers

Inventory:
7x 5% fcr small charms, plain
3x Cold skillers, with either life or strength
Cold sunder
Torch, anni, Tome of Town Portal, Tome of Identify, the standards.


Skills:
Max Frost Nova and Blizzard
Enough points into Cold Mastery for the -195% enemy cold resistance
Enough points into Energy Shield after Battle Orders that it mitigates all incoming damage
Max telekenisis
One point into Warmth, and optionally Frozen Armor



Please do try out this build if you plan on building another cold sorc, trust me, its a blast!

I'm still experimenting on whether Death's Fathom with a Rainbow Facet: Cold Death would be preferred over Doom because of the resistances, extra skill and fcr(so I can potentially swap out the Trang-Oul's Claws for frostburns for more mana), so if anybody has played this build before please let me know your thoughts!

Death's Fathom vs Doom

You probably need to watch those cold immunity, especially very high one and boss have reduction of resistance.

With Infinity, to non-immunity monster, Doom serve like Spirit sword, only +2 skill.

And if the area you play is fixed, you can measure it with weaker facet to avoid exceed damage, usually it is -x/+5 cold. Sometimes it doesnt matter, need to watch monster hp and adjust... usually 1 orb/ Nova kill is enough.

I havent play too much on my cold sorc lately...

I always wanted to try the Frost Nova sorc but doubt its as good as electric Nova

a different build:
Helm: Tiara magic +2 sorc + 20 FCR + 2 sockets - 2 cold facet
primary weapon: 6 socket Crystal Sword - 6 cold facet
secondary weapon: CTA War Staff + 3 Chilling Armor so that I don't have to add point to Chilling Armor
armor: viper - 1 cold facet
shield: head hunter glory 3 sockets - 3 cold facet (can use Monarch but i think i need PR FR and defense)
Belt: ara
amulet: 2 sorc + 10 FCR + AR
glove: trang
boot: FRW 30, with CR and LR
rings: 1 10 fcr with AR, 1 SoJ (for mana source, Frost Nova is mana thirsty)
GC: full skiller + sunder
SC: full AR 5
My rationale behind this build: + 1/2 skill from Spirit or DF or Doom does not boost Cold Dmg as the + % Cold Dmg from facet, and DF or Doom missing 1 side either - Cold Res or + % Cold Dmg

Merc:
Healing merc: Insight + Cure + CoH to recover health + mana

SK points:
Max Frost Nova
Max Blizz + FO
Cold Mastery till -150
1 Warmth + 1 Teleport
Max ES
Remaining goes to tele

Attributes:
very few points to strength
all to mana

Summary:
FCR: 110
+% Cold Dmg: 60
- % Cold Res: 60 + 30 ( Cold Mastery) can remove Cold immunity monster quickly
Frost Nova dmg ~ 1k8

Overall feeling is good, can survive Soul, downside is expensive and being a slow as s when walk in town , and not a MF

Doom does more damage overall to monsters that are cold immune.

Death's Fathom does more damage to everything else. Also has a lot of other desirable stats.
