As far as I know the ghosts have a substantially higher chance to drop a high rune. But none of the high runes I got came from a ghost. and very few mid runes. not sure if it's normal, how is your experience?

If you filter out champions, uniques, superuniques, and bosses you'll see ghosts and their derivatives monopolize the list. (2 minutes ago I found a Mal in CS off a ghost).
The odds of a ghost dropping a high rune is disproportionately higher than most other monsters, but the odds of encountering them is just as disproportionately less likely. That being said I recently had two Sur drop in the Arcane in a single week. So if you're looking to land some high runes from ghosts then you're going to have to go where you're most likely to encounter them.
If you want high runes, just go and kill white mobs in a dozen. I find one high rune per week on average. This weekend it was Sur and Ohm on a single day.
Don't mess around with enemy types or so, it's not worth it. If you make frequent use of Worldstone Shards, it doesn't matter which monster you are fighting, all of them are capable of dropping up to Zod.
High density areas are the best way to find those runes: Secret Cow Level, Flayer jungle, A2 tombs, Chaos Sanctuary, Worldstone Keep, Halls of Pain etc.
AoE skills and travel speed are key. So the best rune farmers will be: Sorceresses, Javazons, Poisonmancers, Fire Warlocks, Hammerdins, Bowazons, Dragondins....
For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys, Ral, Hel, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than Pul (with the named exceptions).

My best recipe to find high (or any ) runes is to change their sound to something more noticeable. After O did so one month ago, I am getting way more runes. And at least one Cham rune will be lost if I will not have this. Wondering how many runes I lost before........

Especially when you start playing the game, Casters like Firelock and Sorceress are far superior to stack runes and better gear.
Poppables are also underrated for higher runes. Found a Jah, Sur and 3 Vex besides dozens of lower runes out of bodies, chest n stuff in less than a year. Nothing higher than Gul or Vex from a ghost till now.

Sure, but my point with that was to just explain that the chances weren't SO different that you'd really notice or expect them to be the source. I made sure that Steel scarab was on the bottom of my list, and Hell Bovine was in there as well. 1:24507 vs. 1:18027 is a difference, but it's not such a difference that you'd question getting a rune from a scarab instead of a ghost (as an example).
