Someone on fb said superior is always 5 sockets
When I asked where does it say they they didn’t give more info other than search google
That didn’t help
If I have a superior Colossus Voulge
Will it give 4 or 5 sockets?
When search here cv says 4 max sockets

Can be used to make Runewords:

The only way to get sockets in a superior item is Larzuk, as the cube recipe does not work with superior (or inferior) items.
And Larzuk will always give the maximum number of sockets, which with polearms is 6.
But only, if 6 sockets is possible.
For a Colossus Voulge 6 is not possible, as their maximum number of sockets is 4. (Look here: https://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/i ... arms.shtml)
(There might be exceptions to that rule concerning normal and exceptional items, which has to do with item level, but with elite items, especially when found in hell difficulty, this is no problem.
So, yes, if you bring your Colossus Voulge to Larzuk, he will put 4 sockets on it.
(From what I know, the only way to break that rule with elite items is upgrading inferior elite items with the cube recipe:
For example you find an inferior Monarch shield in hell difficulty. You remember that there is a cube recipe, that let's you remove the inferior status and upgrade the shield to "normal" White item Monarch shield.
Then you bring that shield to Larzuk with high hopes that he puts 4 sockets in it so that you can have your Runeword Spirit in it.
But - surprise surprise - you only have 3 sockets and you wasted a Larzuk quest... -.-
That is, again, from what I know, because inferior items upgraded to "normal" White items with this before-mentioned cube recipe can NEVER have more than 3 sockets, no matter the maximum number of sockets they could normaly get.)

number of sockets given by Larzuk depends on the item level
Larzuk will give the max allowed:

Yes an item being superior has nothing to do with the sockets Larzuk will give, only the base item and the item level

Don't trust random people on FB. They don't know anything.
Larzuk gives max allowed, as others have said. What the max is depends on the item type. Some items have max = 1, some have max = 2, some have max = 3, etc. And the max also depends in the ilvl (not generally applicable to elite items though, you normally don't need to worry about ilvl for elite items).
I once wasted a Larzuk quest on a Burnt Wand thinking I'd get 2 but I got 1 socket. Not my brightest moment.
I'm in CET (Central European Time)
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.
Holy Grail Death Count: 1

But all my items I’m looking to socket are high enough they will get the max that’s listed here on this site
Speaking of non bright moments
I never knew you couldn’t have more than 1 item equipped with a protectors Stone on you
So yeah that one stung when I realized why it wouldn’t go back on for me
My df had the protectors frost but I wanted another for my nightwings lol

I mean who would guess that there are bases with 1 max sockets, so no runeword is possible.
Yes, only 1 uber jewel allowed as per torches and annis. Probably a good thing for the rainbow facet market though
I provide my bnet details after I have accepted your offer/ you accept mine.
Flexible but mostly trade is UTC+1 evenings. Note timezone differences: several hours ahead of US / behind Asia. Prompt but don't expect instant. This ain't Traderie.

The one Uber jewel limit has nothing to do with the rainbow facet market. It prevents a massive power creep and preserves other gear options.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 2 hours agoYes, only 1 uber jewel allowed as per torches and annis. Probably a good thing for the rainbow facet market though![]()
Uber jewels are much more powerful than facets. If you could wear as many Uber Jewels as you wish, then all uniques and runewords would be dead and people would only use 4s one-hand weapons, 4s shields, 4s body armor and 3s helmets and then just rock 15 Uber Jewels.
I don’t disagree generally but I do think that if Uber jewels were unrestricted in number, it would impact and kill the rainbow facet market. Who would bother socketing with a -5/+5 facet when you could use an uber jewel with +10/-10. The rainbow facet jewels would largely be rendered redundant?mikelessar wrote: 2 hours agoThe one Uber jewel limit has nothing to do with the rainbow facet market. Correct, but not just them, all uniques, sets, runewords for body armor, helmet and weapon slots would be rendered useless in the ultimate endgame. Maybe Enigma would survive because of Teleport but apart form that, you would always just use a base with the most sockets possible (4+4+4+3, for the Warlock it is even 6+4+4+3) and fill up on uber jewels.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 2 hours agoI don’t disagree generally but I do think that if Uber jewels were unrestricted in number, it would impact and kill the rainbow facet market. If any change was made, do you think allowing a character to use a max of maybe 2 uber jewels - but they have to be different kinds - whether that would upset the game balance? I think 2 might be viable, it would allow hybrid builds to power up in two elements (physical/light, cold/fire etc), instead of having to choose, and without being significant contenders as BIS for every slot per the situ you describe?mikelessar wrote: 1 hour agoCorrect, but not just them, all uniques, sets, runewords for body armor, helmet and weapon slots would be rendered useless in the ultimate endgame. One uber jewel plus one renewed sunder is already a massive buff. I myself (who plays 95% softcore) do not want this game to become even easier than it already is.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 hour agoIf any change was made, do you think allowing a character to use a max of maybe 2 uber jewels - but they have to be different kinds - whether that would upset the game balance? Allowing the use of two different jewels would be a nice addition. It would not increase the power of any top build, because top builds are never hybrid anyways. Hybrid builds would be made slightly more powerful, but still well trailing single element builds. It would render socketing with an Ist rune obsolete, but that's about it.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 1 hour agoIf any change was made, do you think allowing a character to use a max of maybe 2 uber jewels - but they have to be different kinds - whether that would upset the game balance?
