So hello everyone,
I've been playing some offline games recently and I farmed my Warlock to level 90. I decided to do some TZ runs after grinding too much shards. I've nearly killed 150 heralds of Terror and not a single sunder charm dropped. Yeah, 0. 1 Latent Black Cleft dropped from a mob in River of Flame and that's it. I really wonder if I am doing something wrong?
I run Abyss warlock. I use Abyss and Miasma Chain to lower the health of the mobs and I make them explode with sigil: Death Mark. I also have Act2 merc and a bound spearwoman demon with me(because fun). I run all acts but mostly I run act1 TZ for terrorized andy with players 3 setup. I really don't understand why I can't sunder charms. Any help and info is much appreciated.
Thank you all upfront.

The chance of a Herald dropping a sunder (any sunder) is:
Tier 1 & 2: 1:101
Tier 3 & 4: 1:68
Tier 5: 1:51
The odds of not getting any sunders from 150 heralds, assuming all are tier 5, are about 5%. If they were all tier 1 or 2, then the odds are about 22.5%. If it’s more of a mix, it’s somewhere in between.
You, sir, just have shit for luck, unfortunately.

My suggestion (what works for me) would be to keep track of how many you're killing on a notepad etc, same as I've done for Countess farming, Key farming, statue farming, etc.
I have found that when you don't keep track, you always overestimate how many runs you have done (I wouldve done 5 countess runs and it felt like I had done 20 sometimes).
Also know that just because something has a 1 in 6 drop chance (for example sake) does not mean it automatically drops the 6th time. That's not how drop chances work. When you flip a coin you have a 1 in 2 chance of it being heads vs tails, but that doesn't mean you can't flip a coin 5x and get tails all 5x.

An easy (in my opinion anyway) way to keep track of run count is to use the lobby and create a game name with a number that you increment with each new game. Just remember to set a password unless you want random people to join. For example "synshards001", "synshards001", ... . Sure, the quick play button is faster, but it doesn't take a lot of extra time to just increment the number between runs. Saves you from writing down stuff as much stuff on the side, only need to note the Herald encounters and drops.

Same applies in personal life. You are not unlucky. There is just randomness without any intention for or against you.Syndesmosis wrote: 6 days agoThe things force me to take it personally since I experience this kind of stuff in my daily life toovued wrote: 6 days agoLuck is probability taken personally.Syndesmosis wrote: 6 days agoYeah, I've been trying to avoid the harsh truth and telling myself it must be a bug or something but that's it I guess.... I have a python script that counts the runs for me. Everytime I click a specific combination it increments the number so that's how I count the runs but I stopped after 142 because I got tilted so that's why I assume the number. I may start counting again or I'll just give up counting.BigD wrote: 6 days agoMy suggestion (what works for me) would be to keep track of how many you're killing on a notepad etc, same as I've done for Countess farming, Key farming, statue farming, etc.

Yeah that's what I do on ladder and battle.net but this one is on offline single player, so I use a counter script I created, well used until 142 runs.ShadowHeart wrote: 6 days agoAn easy (in my opinion anyway) way to keep track of run count is to use the lobby and create a game name with a number that you increment with each new game. @Syndesmosis
You have clearly been unlucky with your Herald drops, as has been said.
But a Latent Black Cleft from a mob in the time of "just" 150 heralds is actually lucky, I guess, considering that it is one of the rarest sunders in a Herald drop.
I have killed maybe 400-500 heralds and dropped more than 10 sunders since May (about 50-50 MF and heralds drops), lots of cold and poison sunders, but the magic sunder has eluded me far.
That's how RNG works.

I haven't had much luck with sunders either. It could be worse! Black Cleft is one of the rarer and more expensive sunders. Better to drop 1 Black Cleft vs 3 Rotting Fissure/ Cold Rupture ^^

Maybe try P8 TZ and Bossfarming, instead of hunting heralds on lower Playercounts, though technically they are your best chance to drop a sunder since the 3.3 Patch.Syndesmosis wrote: 6 days agoSo hello everyone,

Ive stopped Heraldfarming long time ago, after hundreds of them refuse to drop one.
Since the patch last week ive found 3 sunders, none of them from heralds. 15-20 in total, just one of them in a lucky Tier 1 Herald drop.
Patch 3.3 didnt improve the general Herald droptable enough to farm them in my opinion. At least as long sunders still gonna drop from other monsters.

P8 will be too hard for me. My warlock doesn't have the endgame gear yet. I switched back to bossfarming to get some better gear maybe I get back to it later. is it purely sunders you're after? What i've been doing is making Xpac sorcs and farming tz's.
This ladder i had 3 sunders by the ladders 30 hour mark. and i had only played like 8 hours of the ladder. Which like i get is still 8 hours, but it's how i target farm them before swapping, converting to rotw. I got lucky on my 3rd and got a cold sunder, 2 lightnings before, so if i make a light sorc or sin I got my charms.

A level 90 magic warlock should be able to play higher level terrorzones, regardless the gear more or less. Maybe look out how to use the skills more effectively. Chains for example. They are super strong.Syndesmosis wrote: 4 days agoP8 will be too hard for me. My warlock doesn't have the endgame gear yet. You dont need to fight enemies you dont like or Terrorzones you dont like. Be more selective. I barely play act 5 for example cause on my first d2r playthrough a undergeared Zeal Paladin Hell Run left behind a trauma. Since then i hate every bit of it, except Larzuk and the Res boost for sure.

I run Miasma Chains + Abyss build. On higher pcounts, some monsters take too long to kill even if they are not resistant and merc keeps getting slapped. I might be doing something wrong I am not sure, I spam chains until mana runs out then I use Abyss + Death sigil. I avoid act5 too, I lost too many demons and XP because of the souls..
Something doesnt add up for me. Either you are not well equipped or you dont use the skills right enough. How many plus to skills do you have on your gear or maybe the better question, what is your gear?Syndesmosis wrote: 2 hours agoI run Miasma Chains + Abyss build. If your problems are mainly cause of gear, maybe try out other Warlock Builds or classes you already have better gear for and come back to the magic build when you ve found your Ars Dul Mephistos or other -magic res stuff.
Echoing Strike is still very strong and not that gear dependend, Cleave is super versatile and you can basically use every cool melee weapon and gear the game has to offer. Firelock is the most geardependend warlock build.
Cause you already have a magic sunder i would recommend you the pure Hex Purge Echoing Strike build to farm higher player counts more easily. At least if you decide to switch the build. The skill is easy to use, its not that gear dependend and super safe with a propper demon. You can make an Insight in a elite Eth base like a Cryptic Axe and your fine on p8.
