Description

Enigma grants the Teleport skill to any character regardless of their class, making it a valuable runeword that is useful for many builds. Notably, it isn't used often by Amazons due to their incredibly slow cast rate.

The significant Strength bonus granted by Enigma also allows characters to wear heavier gear without investing lots of Stat Points in Strength, such as a Spirit Monarch.

However, Enigma does not boost any resistances, a pitfall that must be mitigated in higher difficulties.

Lastly, Enigma also comes with a high magic find modifier based on character level, making it a popular all-rounder runeword that most players will want at some stage for almost any character.

The most popular bases for Enigma are Dusk Shroud, Mage Plate and Archon Plate.

Alternative ways to Teleport are Naj's Puzzler, Spellsteel and staves/amulets/circlets with Teleport charges. Staves can be shopped from act 3 normal (but it is faster to open a secret cow level portal next to Akara in nm/hell to quickly reset shop by jumping in and out).

Due to this armor's amazing stats; it is often used as the best-in-slot item even for classes that do not utilize the +1 to Teleport skill.
The high boosts to other areas such as strength, MF, skills, etc still make this armor incredible for a Sorceress for example.

Enigma also features the highest Faster Run/Walk of any armor, an incredible stat for Amazons.

Whilst you could have the preference to build such an expensive rune word in a superior base, please keep in mind that the repair costs in that case will be extreme, forcing you to use the repair cube recipe regularly. The minor increase in defense usually is not worth the reduce quality of gamer life

I recommend making Enigma in an Archon Plate since the required level for Enigma is level 65 thanks to the Jah Rune and the base requirement for an Archon Plate is level 63. gl hf

One oft overlooked but nevertheless very powerful affix found on this item is the remarkably high 14 Life After Each Kill. This value is matched only by well-rolled Tomb Reaver or Grief.

When it comes to choosing the correct base for Enigma, everything quickly comes down to either Mage Plate (MP), Dusk Shroud (DS) or Archon Plate (AP). While both DS and AP provide more Defense (like any Elite Armor does), MP has much lower STR requirements (only 55) compared to DS (77 STR) and AP (103 STR). So the question you have to answer yourself considering the "correct" base is if you value having a bit more defense (roughly around 200 - 250) over having more stat points to spent into Vitality. Furthermore, because of the low STR requirements of MP, its ideal to keep it in a shared stash and let multiple of your chars make use of it, MP is by far the most versatile and flexible base you could choose for Enigma while keeping a decent amount of Defense at the same time.
