Installed Diablo II v1.03

Found the old game CD-ROMs today, with CD

Key and all.
Installed the game (yes, I still have a CD-ROM drive ^^).
"Factory version" is Diablo II v1.03. (No expansion.)
It took me some time to get it running full screen on my 4K screen under Windows 11 (dgVoodoo helped in the end).

And so many fun memories that came back!
- No automatic

Gold pickup (duh...)
- No toggling to show items on the Ground, press and hold Alt

Key is the deal.
- Item improvements (speed, damage) are not quantified in the descriptions (for example, it says "slightly faster" rather than "x% faster").
- Small chest (at least no hanging in the future).
- No buying mana potions.
- Sockets are shown asymetrically (e.g. a 1-socket

Buckler will show the socket in the bottom corner quadrant of the 4 spaces it takes up).
- No possibility to put any equipment on mercs.
- Found a +3

Ice Bolt / +3

Fire Bolt staff after 10 minutes and regretted that there's no item sharing between characters ^^
- etc.

Decided to start a spearazon (but am happy about build recommendations by my fellow veterans...).

Iron Maiden monsters as a melee char...

Original classic is still dear to my heart. I want to go back and do a few runs again with the pain of the original game, but I have gotten so used to the QOL since that it might be too painful.

I still have two sets of CD's with keys that I tried to install on my newer computer, but the DVD drive won't read the LOD disc to install. I was going to relive 1.07 or whatever it was with the LOD expansion, but alas I haven't figured out how to get it installed and the Blizzard web site is offering little help beyond a broken link and a disclaimer that it is unsupported and they won't do anything to help.

and dead summoner necro, because pre synergies, necro sucked dicks, you can have 20/20/20 monsters and they all get oneshotted by diablos fire

Sounds like a very different game! I guess monsters with immunities in Hell weren't a thing back then?

From what I remember, the immunities thing was worse, namely that -all- monsters in hell had an immunity (or at least quite high res) to physical. (But I might be mistaken here...)
On the plus side, life and mana leech from skeletons worked

I never played a paladin in old D2. How does the "255" work? What's the exploit there?

Immunities were introduced in LoD patch 1.10. It was the same patch that introduced a lot of the best rune words like Infinity, Enigma and Grief - it also introduced synergies and Act 5 guest monsters, and also massively buffed monsters overall, it wasn't just immunities. Patch 1.10 was a huge change to the game.

LoD existed without that patch for almost 2 years (the LoD release patch was 1.07, IIRC). And D2 existed without LoD for a whole year before that

1 fist kill full skeletons, and 1 cast drain full mana.

I kind of remember you wear part of sigon that has +1 +2 skill and die. Get back from your corpse . You will find you get +1 skill still there and extra +1 +2.

Even though you can cheat (or take advantage of glitches & bugs), doesn't mean you should. Doing so generally makes the game easier, and by extension, boring. Same as kids using cheat codes to steamroll games. Maybe it's fun for 5 minutes, but what's the point? Nobody forces you to take advantage of such things.

I liked the mod for 250 Players instead of 8 players

Have you tried searching the Internet Archive for a download? It's a legit site that a repository of everything yesteryear. Here's a link.

Unless you play multiplayer. Multiplayer is generally competitive by definition, so you basically have to cheat in order not to stay behind. There'a reason why everyone used

Eth bug or A3 rush bug (among many others) before D2R.

Just found a blue ring (required level 3) with a whopping +59% extra

Gold from monsters. I think that does not exist anymore these days

it is automatically trigger, you wear sigon , you die, get corpse, then it trigger.

Original Diablo is like that and I am sure it is fun. When you feel tired, just quit and it will clean up all.

Not much people play factory CD version 1.03 . I am not even sure if you connect to internet , will it auto upgrade or not.

This bug is the only reason that I would open my old desk and find CD-ROM to install it. A lot of dust on my CD-ROM and Diablo CD.

This is likely 20 year thing. And the factory setup, I think all skill is not like today. FoH , in factory CD, it is useless even if you get 200 skill.

Skeleton and hammer is not like today that strong. You only able to use

Zeal and shouldn't put too many skill point in it . I cant remember

Smite

Holy Shield story, it probably very very strong that kill anything in one

Smite.(maybe 1 hit kill final boss diablo?)

Factory CD is skill not balance.

It does auto-upgrade! Click on "Battle.net" in the game menu, and whoooooosh you are at 1.14D. Had to reinstall once because of that, to keep 1.03. (You -can- have an active internet connection while playing offline though, it just upgrades once you actively click the Battle.Net entry.)

Just buy an external CD drive? I think that should work.

Just buy an external CD drive? I think that should work.

I have one buried somewhere. That was on my list for trying to get it to work, whenever I find the time for such things. Instead I'll just do another few Chaos runs on D2R.
