I have a few... The first one that comes to mind is when I farm torches, and walk up to Cain to identify the torch, I make sure to move so I walk up to him in the direction he is currently facing.
I hope that by making him work less (by not moving directions) he'll reward me with a better torch

1) I always take EVERY rune that drops. In my head, if you don't, the game will stop droping runes at all.
2) When I identify torches, i do with my eyes closed, then i move my cursor away and then sloooooowwwly go towards the torch. So this suspense increases the stats of the torch.
3) There is an old one (that i condone lol) that you should drop some gold to that angel near River of Flame waypoint, or else the game won't drop anything good at all.
This item (2) i use everywhere, actually. Playing poker or sueca (a brazilian card game) you should only open one card at a time, really slowly, so you can get the best cards.
If you want a class-specific item(s) don't play/farm with that class. You are more likely to find class-specific items if you are playing with any other class than that. I swear that's how D2 works! xd
Other one would probably be: "Try not to aim farm for a specific thing, otherwise you will never find it." In other words if you really that one thing it's sometimes better to chill out and just play the game or grind some other stuff and eventually that one thing you are looking for is gonna drop naturally (aka don't waste all your energy trying to find 1 item).
Ma neeeeeeema veeeeeeeze! xd
Someone much smarter than me already said once: "The real value of something doesn't reflect in a number of how much a seller can ask for it, but on how much a buyer is willing to pay."

That sounds like the opposite to making Cain work less, as coming to him *from* the direction he's currently facing might satisfy your rationale.
I was a blackjack dealer at a couple different casinos for over a decade... The most important thing I learned is that it is bad luck to be superstitious. That being said, I only gamble from Elzix in A2 because he's the only one I trust.
Hardcore mode is my jam. Played a lot of D1. Played D2 from its release till about 2010, then lots of D3 for most of the 2010's. 29 year Magic: the Gathering player. 12 year League of Legends player.
I've only every had one SoJ drop for me. Something about the drop made me think "that was a SoJ that just dropped. I have also had an analogous feeling with two Raven Frost rings.
My conclusion: with rings, you can somehow tell when a big drop happens.
