Don't know how often this happens but wonder if this could be solved with Telekinesis skill. If this is the case a ring with this skill could be stashed in a shared stash.
Happens regularly on the "little islands" off for example the red portals in A5 in which case you can just Teleport over and snag it.
But a "mid-air" drop like that, I haven't seen in 20 years so...not very often I dare say.
The original Telekinesis would help as it was able to pick up everything. But that was nerfed ages ago (1.08? 1.09? Some time around then..) for admittedly good reason (plenty of bugs to be abused around it, tons of scams, massive advantage in the pug loot hunt, ...). So today, that ring would indeed seem somewhat stuck. Unless that "invisible island" it dropped on is large enough to Teleport onto or Leap to or some such.
