yes hell is filled with fire immunes and yes I've read that every now and then people try a Hydra sorc and have mixed reviews. Is it possible with gg items to get a Hydra/"insert other skill here" sorc that tears through hell or is it a lost cause?

Lost cause im afraid. The Hydra skill simply has too little of up time mixed with slow shooting and the cast delay that makes it so even if the damage was tripled it would still suck lol. Maybe if you could cast it as fast as traps and have up to 4-5 it would be decent. Although it was temporarily kinda cool that Hydra's and traps followed you before they hot fixed it.
UPDATE: Hydra cooldown being removed + dmg boost in upcoming patch 2.4

It has less damage than other cooldown skills. It offers some utility in probing rooms and areas ahead, but it's not something other skills like FO can't do.
Hydra is playable with the right gear, but it's not very efficient.

No, you still suffer the same cooldown when casting from either.

That is a bonus to Meteor, but remember those bonuses are OSkill bonuses, meaning that for the class whose skill it is, they can only gain a maximum of +3 from OSkills. This is so that OSkill bonuses can be viable for other classes, while not being overpowered for the class they originate from. Trang-Oul's Avatar grants you Fireball (lvl18), Fire Wall (lvl13), Meteor (lvl10) and Fire Mastery (lvl3). But the paladin shield Dragonscale grants lvl 10 Hydra.
For my trades I expect Lem as lowest rune (exception Hel).

Whoa, +18 Fireball? So a sorc can have like a native Level 35 Fireball and wear a couple pieces from Trang’s and have a level 53 Fireball? Hydra about to become viable with patch 2.4! They said they are removing its cooldown entirely and boosting its damage.
