Description

One of the new 2.4 Runewords, Plague is well suited to Act 3 and Act 5 mercenaries, and requires the comparatively under-utilised Cham high rune to craft. Enemy Poison Resistance affix, as well as Lower Resist proc make it suitable for Rabies druids. Placed in a Claw-class weapon, it can be used to amplify the effects of the Venom: Skill.

Now that this runeword is confirmed for claw type weapons, Plague can be used to potentially make + 5 Lightning Sentry Claws with a + 3 automod and + 2 to all skills White claw type weapon. However this item still falls short of magic Claws that can spawn an additional quickness suffix (+40% increased attack speed) and roll 2 sockets from the Larzuk socket quest.

The most powerful feature of this new recipe is Lower Resist proc. While Infinity your merc is wielding cannot cut some fire immunities alone (minotaurs and Lister pack at wsk/throne) - this added curse will do the trick, making this weapon a hooray for fire assy builds. Tiger Strike + Dragon Tail, for example

Update: Dual Plague swords at a5 merc - for infi-wielding spearzons (charged+light strike). Awesome roast, very handy farmer.

Plague was ladder only during Patch 2.4 and Patch 2.5 (Ladder Season 1 & 2). Since Patch 2.6 (Ladder Season 3) it is possible to create Plague in non-ladder.

An interesting alternative to Fury when used in conjunction with Chaos, given Plague is placed in a fast claw such as the Runic Talon. Such a combination would allow Whirlwind Assassins to place a greater emphasis on the Venom: Skill as a component of the build's damage output.

A slvl 13 Cleansing aura has the following effects:

Curse and Poison duration reduced by 75% per pulse (1 pulse per 2 seconds)

A slvl 17 Cleansing aura has the following effects:
Radius (yards): 33
Curse and Poison duration reduced by 78% per pulse (1 pulse per 2 seconds)

A slvl 34 Cleansing aura (obtainable by a Barbarian or Assassin dual-wielding Plague) has the following effects:
Radius (yards): 54.7
Curse and Poison duration reduced by 86% per pulse (1 pulse per 2 seconds)

A budget alternative to decrease the elemental resistances if you cannot afford Infinity. Make a Plague in an Act 5 merc in a Phase Blade. It reduces the poison resistance. Infinity doesn’t.

A superior use for Plague (3s PB) is the Frenzy Barb (Merc of A5) with Plague for Lower Resist and Cleansing, in combination with Azurewrath ( Ber/ Shael/ Amn) is best in slot to use.
Lawbringer is a fair alternative for Azurewrath, but Decrepify will constantly overwrite/exchange Lower Resist, kind a annoing. Still, Lawbringer is better if you like to go for Nihlathak

Easy run the FoH-Paladin with Redemption/ Vigor Aura only, to save skillpoints for Smite/ Fist of the Heavens dual build (special items needed).
Lower Resist with -57% can compensate Conviction against low resistant enemies, just for the Lightning Damage of Fist of the Heavens, if you plan to go that dual build.

Alternativly it's superior additive to full FoH build with max Conviction plus Lower Resist!
Nothing will resist that combo - even without Sundercharm!
