Description

Say you're a paladin with Holy Fire item auras from Hand of Justice (LV16), Dragon armor (LV14), and Dragon Shield (LV14). That's a (16+14+14=) LV44 Holy Fire, AOE pulsing 3 times per tick for the 3 items.

Now suppose you have an act 3 merc with the same gear. Does this mean there are two LV44 Holy Fire auras, pulsing a total of 6 times per tick?

What if you instead have an act 5 merc with Dragon armor + dual HOJ for LV46 Holy Fire?

Damage will still be rather meh on merc as paladin aura synergy is what enables dragondin. A5 Merc lacks this and A3 Merc unfortunately got no points Fire Mastery.

I did the math at some point in this forum, and I am too lazy to do it again now.

Long story short: Your merc will inflict a few hundred points of damage per tick while your Dragondin will inflict a few thousand.

It's barely enough to prevent stronger enemies from their natural regeneration of life points...

My most obstinate attempt to make an aura merc work was a Necromancer using Lower Resist and wielding an Infinity while the Ironwolf was geared with dual Dragon, Hand of Justice and perfectly rolled Flickering Flame!!! The merc wasn't able to kill anything beyond let's say skeletons and Fallen ones in a reasonable period of time. Don't hold your breath on Heralds or Bosses which were literally immune to his aura damage. We are talking about /p1 here, btw...

Edit: All I can say from my own experience is that the Lightning Ironwolf with stacked -res and fcr is the strongest A3 merc if you want him for damage primarily. He gets even stronger on higher player counts...

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys, Ral, Hel, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than Pul (with the named exceptions).

The information on effectiveness is appreciated, but I was really wondering how the auras actually interact. Is it just as simple as "both player+merc auras proc independently on the same ticks"?

Yes.

Is quite useful for a Paladin to increase the allround damage of your Holy Fire Skill. Get Paladin - wear HoJ Dragon+Dragon and Flickering Flame get Act3 Merc with similar equipment. Could be useful in Players Count 8 games. You get Enchant from merc and have a good Zeal damage. Maybe you can increase your fire effect damage with opalveins and sunder. Aim is to 1-hit cows etc. with your aura.

Other Mercs are useful as well Act 2 Infinity and Act 4 Dual Plague.
