Hello All,
Ethereals are generally recognised as providing more damage than regular counterparts, and for that ghostly visual.
Ethereal is good for player use assuming you have a repair-replenish mod or a skill (eg Barb throw replenish) that does it.
It’s even a strong choice where it has no way to repair or replenish, but where the item isn’t expected to lose durability during use eg wands and staves for casting purposes.
We know that Mercs are suited to ethereal items as they don't degrade items through use or combat.
My question is this. What have been your worst ethereal drop fails?
Pics optional but welcome. Do share your stories; oh what ethereal horrors have your builds seen in their D2R lives?

Relatively speaking, it probably isn’t that terrible as it happens a lot to everyone, but my very first ever griffon was ethereal. Never found one back in LOD because I think it was ladder only. And I didn’t play ladder then.
In D2R, was saving up to finally trade for one when it dropped and I was ecstatic. Picked it up and bam, ethereal. I still have it, it’s on an act 3 merc lol.

Can do trades on D2R or D2RotW

Ouch. The worst thing about this is that the ethereal quality should have raised the defence, but even with that the defence still isn’t 200+ which means the base roll must have been really low?kazehinata wrote: 2 days agoYou know what? Thanks all. I should have added that with helms, at least you can Larzuk and Zod it? Although this would perhaps have been much cheaper pre-ROTW!

He wants to have 4 sockets. Larzuk can only give you 5 and that's not desirable.AardvarksAdvance wrote: 2 days ago
that’s actually one that is fixable with a Larzuk quest? But ofc, having it roll with a valuable number of sockets in the first place would have been better.
A very very good Obedience base. But cheap to sell.

Damn, I thought I hit the jackpot for my BlizzSorc but...
it would still be great if 15 csd, but its just mid
With 19 durability and a build that should rarely get hit, you can wear it for long before it breaks... enough time perhaps to get another one ?

My ticket to the ethereal Griffon’s Club. Sitting on a mule for more than a year now, waiting until Blizzard finally gives Act3 mercs the boost they deserve. Maybe in the next patch
2nd in a row. imagine those chances
Not a drop per se but a reckless use of an ethereal Hone Sundan.
This was an excellent weapon I found that I used it only for Act V Hell (Diablo dropped it at the end of Act IV).
It was very good with it's repairing attribute but I overused it on the Ancient battle and broke. I was a bit disappointed that I had to take the less damaging normal one.
Now I have a BotD in a Superior Matriarchal Spear, +3 skill and 10% damage

You can use it on a Javazon that only runs Cows. If you do it right, you will get hit almost never and this can last hundreds of runs.
