Description

Found an ethereal piece with 2670 armor today.. is there any use for it or is it just another useless curiosity?
high armor is kinda counterproductive to triggering Iron Maiden..
merc? self use? Iron Golem? Charsi? sell? keep in stash?

and str requirement is 220, just 10 short of the non-ethereal 230.. i thought ethereals are heavier discounted?

Can be used to make Runewords:

Ethereal items always have 10 less str/dex req than their non- Eth versions.

Imo, The Gladiator's Bane and Stone, both with lots of defense, are far superior to Steel Carapace. Iron Maiden is ineffective, it might even be counter-productive if it cancels out a useful curse like Amplify Damage, Lower Resist or Decrepify. However, the reduced phys damage on Steel Carapace is not bad.

It's only useful if ethereal, because of the self repair and lower str req.
2670 def is a good roll.
How much cr and dr does it have?

Should be worth ~ Ist or even more if good rolls.

Playing HC SSF right now.

Hell completed: Sorc, Druid, Paladin, Ama, Assa, Necro, Barb
Iron Man (Paladin): Nightmare A1

other rolls mediocre, 42% cold res & 10 pdr, 10% mana regen
but thx for the hint, I will get rid of the non-ethereal one

Better make a Golem out of something useful, like a cheap Insight. As mentioned above, the Eth carcass has some trade value.

Unfortunately armor is pointless in d2. Well, not fully pointless but its gains are very minimal. It wont help much as an Iron Golem, do what was mentioned above ^

OP
about armor in general.. what if it added pdr and mdr? some steeply regressive formula, like (armor ^ 0.33) - 5
>100 armor = 0 dmg red
200 = 1
500 = 3
1000 = 5
2000 = 7
3000 = 9
5000 = 12
10000 = 16

would it be a good idea? has it been considered before?
