Description

Although a very rare drop, this item has little trade value, especially when compared to its blue-tinted brother, Nightwing's Veil. Sorry to disappoint you if you're price checking this after finding it the first time!

The Veil might have a niche use to provide resistances for your mercenary if you socket the Veil with a Hel rune to lower its strength requirement, but at that point you may as well use Kira's Guardian instead to also gain the Cannot be Frozen trait.

The Veil is a nod to a quest in the first Diablo game, in which you receive the item as a reward for finding a spectral elixir for the cursed undead knight Lachdanan. Once Lachdanan drinks the elixir, he is freed from his curse and gives you the Veil off his own head before dying at last.

This Helm is still a solid defensive headgear, designed mostly for your main character - light radius penalty is easily neglected by your torch, while you can get the advantage of +15 vita (your merc cannot). Not an endgame option, but can prove quite useful through hell - especially if it is one of your first elite drops.

At the gates of Hell, the only thing to save you is the Veil of Steel

Because a unique can only drop once per instance, any game where a Veil of Steel has dropped has a greater chance of spawning a Nightwing's Veil than a game where it has not. This is due to the fact that any future Unique Spired Helm that drops will be unable to spawn as a Veil of Steel, making it a Nightwing's Veil by default. This is, perhaps, the best feature of this otherwise lackluster helm.
