To be honest: Probably I could do that with nearly no effort (maybe I need a few more bases and I would have to go on ladder, too) but I guess I never will. I am just too much of a swabian German guy to "waste" the runes for this...

That's what the trading website is for though. Runes are pretty easy to come by here. Lots of items can be traded for runes. Like, I traded an ethereal 4 socket

They are so rare to drop its lucky if you find one or two for a ladder. As a casual player you most likely find zero. I play from morning to afternoon/evening every day and have seen none in d2r.
