As far as I know, a stack of items is in fact one item
Once the items are stacked, the stack could become an array filled with items.
So an array filled with IDs.
Are you speaking from actual knowledge of how the game engine works, from having read the reversed engineered code? Or are you just throwing around programming lingo? It might be like you say, but I'm curious.
Well, he did say "could" so likely not intimate knowledge of the engine.

But realistically, that (or some way close to it) is how it would have to work if it were to be implemented in D2:R for the exact reason you already brought up: item IDs.

If they didn't need the unique IDs for their anti-dupe or if the anti-dupe were instant, you could simply attach a "quantity" value to items to simulate a stack and basically have them work exactly the same way
Arrows
already do. But doing so means you're turning multiple items into a single one and losing the extra data for them, meaning unique item IDs would be lost on stacking.

To counter that, since their anti-dupe requires those IDs to be preserved, you would have to end up with some form of array(-like) stacking where you don't necessarily need to preserve everything about each stacked item but would at minimum have to add an array/list property to the item to fill with all of the unique IDs in the stack. De-stacking could then pick one from that list, remove it and attach it to the de-stacked item.
Plus the entire anti-dupe would then also need to be adjusted so it searches said list/array to specifically remove only the duped ID in it, rather than the entire stack.

Or you do an active dupe-check on every 'stack' action after which you could remove the ID and merely generate a new one on each un-stack. But that's probably not too performant of an approach.

Thank you.

You can fill any informations in the array with the ID as a
Key
.

The only "change" - I'm getting scared, I will be again charged for not knowing the D2R programming code - is the stack is no more an item but an array.
Once you remove the item from the the stack and place it elsewhere, it becomes the item with the characteristics that they have.

I'd be happy with just stackable runes and jewels..
do we trust Blizzard
No, not at all.

What you explained makes sense about stacks vs individual items. This is probably why it's more practical and safe for them to implement more stash tabs. But of course, being modern Blizzard, they're going to bank off of it. Part of me would want to get more stash tabs, even if I had to pay. Another part of me just says to manage what space I have better so I don't turn into a hoarder.

I apologize if this news has been posted somewhere else. It appears the D2R client has been significantly updated. The client has been updated from from 1.7.9 to 3.0.9. Each number to the left represents major changes, numbers to the right represent less changes. I know people don't want to get too hopeful. But, this change in numbers would seem to represent something much more than a couple stash tabs and rune words added. If that were the case, it's much more likely the number would be 1.8 or 1.9 at the most. My optimism about D2R receiving signficant content has increased. We'll see, would like to see major content added.
That could also mean they're just aligning the version and patch numbers. At the moment we have patch 2.9 but game version is 1.7.9. Next patch is 3.0 and game version 3.0 so they are finally the same and less people are confused about the version numbering.

The way D2R prevents dupes is by assigning each item a unique ID. I.e., each
Ber
rune that drops has its own unique ID.
A quick question: so Runes *do* also have their own IDs?

I ask because back when I used to play LoD two decades ago (2005?) and that application
Atma
was being developed/released, Runes had no ID of their own -- only proper items had IDs... did this change in the intervening 20 years? (I mention
Atma
because that's the closest I ever got to tinkering with the inner workings of the game)

BTW, I remember once trading for a
Jah
Rune on a forum and having no way of confirming its legitimacy... this caused me some crisis of consciousness and loss of innocence lol, I never felt good with the Fury Runeword I made for my
Frenzy
Barb...

Apparently, someone found a leaked Blizzard image for a new class in D2R. I have not made an effort to look for the source of this image. Hope tempted to rise to ridiculous levels. If fake, looks like a quality fake, and interesting at the very least. Take it with a major grain of salt on this one. We will find out soon.

To be honest, I don't actually know, I just assumed based on what I've heard. People always say that if you duped runes in LoD you needed to make rune words out of them immediately to avoid them poofing. I could be wrong.

Old D2/LoD did receive several patches since 2005 though;
Patch 1.12 in June 2008
Patch 1.13c in March 2010
Patch 1.13d in October 2011
Patch 1.14c in May 2016
Patch 1.14d in June 2016
(and yes some people did play that long, I didn't stop playing LoD until sometime in 2012, IIRC, but I never paid much attention to the whole duping thing back then because I only played offline & TCP/IP with friends)

I'm in CET (Central European Time)
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

My prognoses for what we will get:
- some China related stuff that is irrelevant for the rest of the world.
- Announcement that the game will be avaiable on Steam
- Some Switch news
- A free item stash, but a free shared one (so basically nothing)
- an additional, char-specific item-stash (so very usefull), but for real money. 10-15 bucks.

Additionally, I have some hopes for
- changes to the
Terror
-Zones. (More
Terror
-Zones active at the same time)

And we may get one or two new rune words.

I see 0 chance of getting:
- A new class
- New content in the form of new quests, new NPCs or a new act

I am afraid that the majority in this thread will be severly disappointed.

As far as I know: Yes.

This has been implemented in one of the earlier patches for D2 LoD (I guess it was 1.10) to counter the massive duping. Since then, there's a "dupescanner" automatically detecting and deleting runes and other items having duplicated IDs.

One way to avoid losing duped runes was to put them into a runeword, which creates a new item ID. Those runes were "safe" from "poofing".

Nowadays, there is no way of duping anymore. But we have massive botting and RMT now... so in fact, things didn't change. Markets are still flooded with high level stuff.

ElSolDolLol

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys,
Ral
,
Hel
, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than
Pul
(with the named exceptions).

NO PM OFFERS PLEASE! BE FAIR AND WRITE INTO THE THREAD :)

That's how I feel.

Some people on other forums are getting dogpiled for even suggesting that it's anything but some huge sweeping addition to the game.

Now, they did announce D2R even when I was still pessimistic, but with the company's track record, 1/50 announcements being good is reasonable for anyone to think anything otherwise.

Not a knock on you, but I lost count how many "leaks" I've seen that were fake. Half of which were "... from a known reliable source".

I am fully willing to eat crow if I have to.

It doesn't seem like most people on here expect much at all, so I don't think many people will be disappointed. And based on what I see on reddit, most people are not expecting much. Blizzard has not built up a lot of good Faith in the past, to say the least.
