I for my part would love to have some form of "D1R" in "D2R" 😇
This is one of the best ideas I've ever heard from! A possible Act 6, leading back to the beginning.

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys,

Hel

I think Blizzard has no real intention to make D2R better. Since it is a direct competitor to D4. Of course, it could earn more money with D2R with loot filters, specialized stash tabs etc, but that would only mean that many people will have lots of more fun with D2R and never touch D4. Would be good for us D2 players but bad for Blizzard, as long as they don't fully commit to a Path of Exile financing system., which they will not do for D2R.

I don't expect much from this patch, but I hope I get proven wrong.
In my estimation the intersection of D2R and D4 players is very small which means that most D2R players are not very interested in D4 (there are some exceptions of course ;-)). Therefore, as long as D4 does not become some D2 (and vice versa) I think it is nearly impossible to get dedicated long term D2 players to switch to D4.

Btw, my sons watched some playthrough videos of D4 some time ago and there reaction was: "Hey Dad, is this really the newer game? This looks so repetetive and boring..." 😁
New to the party.

I played D2 since release and a lot of it. I now play it on console. I attempted to play D4 without success. I really tried to give it a fair shot, but it was trying to be a mixture of D2 and D3. It had potential but Blizzard are too focused on maximizing MTX to make it a real successor.

1) Requires a constant internet connection. This does not work for a lot of people. I can play D2 on-the-go or when the net is down without a problem.

2) D2 has a good amount of things to do. Not a lot, but not so much where it feels like they're just bloating the game with senseless things to do in order to project the illusion of varied content like D4 does.

3) No MTX! This is one of the biggest things about D2. I can play without worrying about whales forking over their tax returns so they can be invincible. I don't have to see those annoying advertisements in my face at every turn. I know that whales love to say "Well, you don't HAVE to buy that stuff...", but every time I get a rank up, I don't want to be told "You can access this if you buy our battle pass!"

4) D2 has that spooky darkness to it. This was totally taken away with D3 as that game has 0 spooky vibe. D4 tries to rekindle this but with how dense the world is, it feels like a missed opportunity. While this aspect may not be important to some people, it was part of what reeled me into D2 at the time.

5) D3 and D4 have almost no real sense of customization with skills. In D3, due to how sets work, there are many skills that never get used. In D4, it's not AS bad, but there are still skills that often go unused. In D2, there is so much more freedom on builds, where you can make a successful build with any skill you enjoy.

Yes, I know D2 was a product of it's time, but it was created back when Blizzard cared about good games, good gameplay, and about it's customers. That's not the Blizzard we have today. They're hyper-focused on funneling money and customer satisfaction is of no importance.

My favorite wishlist item. This could be implemented without even messing up the rest of the game. Just a stack of randomized dungeons with increasing hordes of mobs to kill until your facing nothing but dozens of champions and uniques at once. The basic tiles are already in the game. The mobs are already in the game. This should be "relatively" simple to implement.

Yes, this had been my thought, too. I think this way they could get a maximum of new content with the minimum of effort (music, basic graphics etc. is all there and has only to be remade and polished) and in my estimation this is exactly what the "common nostalgic D2 player" wants to see. Win/win for everyone 😁😉

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

There are rumors about the whole Diablo franchise getting the same new class, if true it most probably would be warlock. On d2jsp you even can find a screenshot, which of course could be and very likely is fake. However, a big german speaking streamer, who signed a NDA, was giving hints about this yesterday.
I don't know what to think about this. Neither if this really could be happening, nor if I want it to happen. Chances are somewhat high, they F it up real bad. But I also don't want to see it too negatively. I was born in the last millennium, but I am not that old (yet) ;)

If we get a new class, I also would expect to most likely see a new act as well. On the other hand, they announced classic ladder and LOD ladder, but no "post LOD" ladder. Then again, they would give away way too much..

What I am really hoping for are:
  • stackable mats
  • extra stash tab for mats
  • some way of juicing the game, without rendering the current endgame useless
  • some new engame content, like a new boss. But pls, for the love of god, don't flood the game with meaningless sh*t

That sounds like a very fun idea! Doubt it will happen tho.

Sorry for double posting.
Forgot to mention, I also would appreciate it very much, if we had a way to prevent us from selling our gear to the vendor :D

I apologize if this news has been posted somewhere else. It appears the D2R client has been significantly updated. The client has been updated from from 1.7.9 to 3.0.9. Each number to the left represents major changes, numbers to the right represent less changes. I know people don't want to get too hopeful. But, this change in numbers would seem to represent something much more than a couple stash tabs and rune words added. If that were the case, it's much more likely the number would be 1.8 or 1.9 at the most. My optimism about D2R receiving signficant content has increased. We'll see, would like to see major content added.

Believe me, I really really WANT to believe there is something much bigger/better than we expect, but I don't have much Faith in the company as of a decade ago.

If it is something big, like a Switch 2 upgrade, more runewords, additional content, that's fantastic. I also can't help the part of me that thinks that will all be an additional purchase.

I am certainly not going to tell you to have "more Faith" in Blizzard. I understand people being skeptical. I am still skeptical... if something is added, how much content will be added and good will it be?

But, now I am more optimistic based on seeing this news. These numbers would likely mean signficant changes are coming. Still weird to see a game get no updates at all for years, no accouncements for possible updates, and then suddenly get major updates. Not something you often see in the gaming industry (it happens, but not often). I would have no hestitation paying for content, if the content is significant and of good quality.

The numbers are definitely interesting, but this company has burned me and many others countless times, been dishonest, shady, etc. Therefore, I'm not going to get excited. I was already involved in another game's hype that included "reliable leaks" and everything turned out to be nothing.

I was surprised when D2R was announced. I guess I'll hope for the best, expect the worst.

I'll personally be ok with a Switch 2 upgrade.

Maybe we are allowed to buy more stash place for real money...
Ugh. I hope not. If extra stash tabs are to come to fruition... You paid for the game and those new stash tabs should be FREE. I don't feel that Blizzard has been blinded by money as much as RockStar... Those stash tabs will more than likely be free with a patch/update.

I still play GTA Online and the "Pay to Win" garbage is tearing the very fabric of the game apart. RockStar has really messed up before their November launch of GTA6... They've been experimenting with exactly how far they can push their gamers/fans. I personally will be playing GTA5 Online while reading the reviews for GTA6 Online. It's a "Dog and Pony" show... The micro-transactions and pay to win crap will chase people away. My theory is that GTA6 will highly resemble GTA5. New content however, lacking the depth and the substance...
I don’t mind paying for extra tabs. It’s optional that isn’t pay to win. And it gives blizzard money to not ignore D2

If we're doing super wishful thinking. How about a new rune above
Zod
that gives faster cast rate and then a few caster words in orbs so we don't all have to use Spirit and HOTO.

Would like a Switch 2 upgrade too :)

Well, major releases (first number) simply mean breaking changes, i.e. non-compatibility with previous versions. Minor (2nd number) means new features, 3rd number is bug fixes. (Assuming they use semantic versioning)

So yes, it could be new content that makes this necessary.

But it could also be major backend changes. D2R today still runs on 25 year old backend architecture and nobody wants to touch that because it's ancient technology, lost to the elders. So technological upgrade could be the reason as well.

Adding payment services could also be a source of breaking changes.

Since I prefer being positively surprised over being disappointed, I'll keep believing they added payed stash space (they already have the code from China) and don't give us any free lunch.

D2R is nothing but a highly complex paper doll dress up simulator.

I've got 100+ crafted amulets (from cheap to gg). Let me know what you are looking for.

I'd be happy with just stackable runes and jewels..

I expect paid tabs really somehow got a feeling they want to add microtransactions to this as more people play d2r then probably d4 at times.. (I could be wrong)

Question is how can they add paid stuff to an offline also game? Unless offline gets it free. Which would pull more people offline don't make sense.

Hopium meter is trying to burst, but I have realistic expectations..
