New Player Greeting All

New paladin saying hi to everyone,a lot of kind people,I have to play private lately because everyone sees low levels and assumes we want rushing or free items ,I appreciate the free stuff but I need to find my own way ,I tend to give to others when Im finished with any gear I was gifted,I'm currently learning runewords and horadic cube recipes,as a new player it gets confusing,anyway good luck to all

If you play on ladder softcore, dont hesitate to add me up or send msg if youre in need of help of any kind. I might have some gear help (nothing major most likely if anything left) from mules and able to rush through all difficulties swiftly.

Refreshing to see someone actually wanting to learn and earn something these days, rather than just get rushed and geared asap. /applaud
Though if you have any questions along your D2 learning journey, don't hesitate to ask here. This game does have quite a few oddities not that easy or intuitive to figure out after all.

Normal tier belts are always worth upgrading to exceptional, as it increase the number of slots.

For other armor pieces, it only raises the defense (and requirements), which might not even result in a very impressive increase - it depends on the base and the stats of the item. You can always double check this in advance - say you're interested in upgrading

Arctic Furs, which is a

Quilted Armor. If you look at the database page for

Quilted Armor (<-- point at or click the name) you will see that the upgraded (exceptional quality) version is called

Ghost Armor, and if you check that page you will see that a

Ghost Armor as a base has a defense value of 102-117. Now,

Arctic Furs has a enhanced defense % modifier - it's randomly somewhere between 275 and 325%, but say yours has 300%. In that case, upgrading it will result in a defense value between (102*4) and (117*4), i.e., between 408 and 468. That's a roughly x9 time increase compared to the normal

Arctic Furs which has 45-51 defense, or plus 360-420 in raw defense numbers. That's a lot at low levels. Is it worth it though? Well, it might be. For other items the increase is insubstantial, however. Take

Arctic Mitts instead as an example. They're

Light Gauntlets, and upgrading them turns them into

Battle Gauntlets.

Arctic Mitts doesn't have any enhanced defense modifiers, so the defense is just 9-11 normally, and 39-47 if upgraded to exceptional. Sure, that's between x4 and x5 increase, but in actual defense numbers, it's just an increase of roughly 28-38. That will definitely not make a noticeable difference.

For weapons that you're actually swinging at monsters the difference will always be noticeable as you'll be doing more damage per hit.

Just be careful about one thing - when you upgrade an item there's a hidden level "penalty" to the upgraded item. Take

Arctic Furs again as example. It has a required level of 2 normally. If you upgrade it to

Ghost Armor, the required level goes up, but it goes up more than you might expect. A

Ghost Armor has required level 22, but the game actually adds a +5 modifier to this, making the result require level 27. There's a similar penatly when upgrading from exceptional to elite, in that case it's +7 (so upgrading twice from normal to elite incurs a total of +12 to the level requirement on top of the resulting base's level requirement).

Can't get good if I let others play for me ,I let normal mode get rushed,and since then I've been slowly grinding areas in

Terror zones collecting all the waypoints that was missed ,and I've got got 3 viperskin armour ,they people randomly leave in my room

It will be runes that you may endeavor to seek when you level up. The community is great in that respect, especially if (when) you accidently stuff up a runeword (placement or base) or get such a bad roll you need to make the item again (CTA anyone...)
