OP
Interesting, I acknowledge that the offer is much much lower than what the seller expects. My only concern is the lack of anonymity, since it's not very nice to flag somebody, even if it's a bit funny. I also give him slack, its hardcore, so farming Ist runes is still a bit risky.oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years ago Look at this baloney. Is this serious? Why, yes it is.

LMAO!
Plus, this game is all about taking minute chances of success (drops or even offers).
However, it can happen. My 382/40 Grief (which I ended up selling for Ber) had Ohm offers.
It is nice, we can get fun out of the game in different ways. I would sooner give me the bullet then making over 100 mindless Trav runs in a row with no challenge thanks to max gear and would be my definition of a waste of time. Playing the market needs more brain. I play for challenge and cookie cutter builds or runewords like Grief, Fortitude or Enigma would take that away for me.Darbon wrote: 3 years agoI play the game because I want to kill monsters, find loot, etc have fun with the game, this is fun for me, making a bunch of accounts on many websites reading all replies from those sites, paying attention to all that stuff that happens there in all these websites, making a bunch of auctions with all these people writing is not fun for me, its a waste of time.Roxxia wrote: 3 years ago I have a lot of fun playing the market. What if that is all he have and just want try its luck? Hardcore itself is another market with own prices and people have more problem to get a buyer (Especially if they mark their sell offer as WTB instead of WTS).
OP
It's a publicly listed trade offer that everyone can see. There's nothing anonymous about this, besides the person's real name. lolAegis200 wrote: 3 years agoInteresting, I acknowledge that the offer is much much lower than what the seller expects. Of course, HC is risky. That's why there's usually an increase in prices relative to SC, but this is kind of thing is flat-out ridiculous.
I'm trying too hard? lol. You're the one here stretching credulity and making excuses for the this absurd degree of lowballing. Why are you concerned with protecting the optics of this? Do you have a vested interest in keeping this kind of behaviour part of the trading site's culture? Go on jsp and try to make that kind of offer. You'll get ignored or laughed at, and nobody will want to trade with you. That offer is a fraction of just what the Lo rune alone is worth in HC.Darq wrote: 3 years ago Your tryin too hard.

Yes, you are trying to hard because you take this game far too serious. Your the one who does real life comparison to digital data without real value. I don't making excuse but offer different possible explanation (or can you proof that your view is the right one, did you have hacked in the account of the person?).oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years ago I'm trying too hard? lol. And what is with your over interpreting what i want of this site? I just don't want to be part or your crusade against lowballing. Are you trying to establish a socialist market here for a fucking game? In most cases this extreme lowballing will also laughed at here and i chuckle too.
And get away with jsp, i want to be no part of that site, i have a personal disgust for their forumgold involving real money.
OP
Who said anything about real life? Every game with trading has its own economy that behaves roughly like real economies because people themselves roughly behave the same way in game when it comes to buying and selling. By way of examples and analogy, we use real life analogues, that are sometimes contrived, to make a point. Doing so in no way implies that you're making arguments about real life when making them about the game.Darq wrote: 3 years ago Yes, you are trying to hard because you take this game far too serious. And what's this slander about hacking someone's account? What are you even talking about?
If you're not a politician, you really ought to be one with the way you use language to twist and misrepresent things and others. There is no crusade, and nobody is promoting socialist markets. Please take your hyperbole elsewhere.Darq wrote: 3 years ago And what is with your over interpreting what i want of this site? I just don't want to be part or your crusade against lowballing. Like it or not, jsp isn't going anywhere. Whether you use the site for trading or not is a separate matter. The site itself is an informational tool. There's a huge volume of trading that happens there which makes it useful for gauging recent price estimates. That is especially true for HC, since there are no HC price guides here or elsewhere that I've seen, and values fluctuate differently in the HC economy with people regularly dying and starting over.Darq wrote: 3 years ago And get away with jsp, i want to be no part of that site, i have a personal disgust for their forumgold involving real money.

Softcore Ladder s3
OP
You're absolutely right. I don't understand it when the seller opens with "LF Lo + Ohm" and you reply with "2 Mal". What is the thought process and rationale behind that? What are you hoping for? That he gets impatient in a day and says "ok fine"? That his kid brother logs in to his account and completes the transaction? That his character dies and he desperately needs to sell the high level gear to start fresh?Rinpo wrote: 3 years agoOP is pretty new to trading and doesn't understand this.Darq wrote: 3 years ago What if that is all he have and just want try its luck? Honestly, what is it? Please explain that. I'm genuinely curious.
You do realize that people do this in real life also right? lol. You ever work at a store like 7/11 before or know someone who has? There is always gonna be that one dude who takes a $2 chocolate bar goes to the cashier and is like "yo ill give you 25 cents for the chocolate bar". At least on this site you can hit them with a squelch (make their posts for that trade invisible). Cheapskates exist everywhere.

OP
Yes, I understand, and it's also annoying in real life. It's worse here, since it's usually predatory. The kid in the store offering 25c for a $2 chocolate bar is being cheeky, but the guy offering a Lem for a 45/+2 Death's Web is scummy.jbmc wrote: 3 years ago You do realize that people do this in real life also right? lol. I don't know if we've been down this road in this discussion (like in all the others before), but maybe the one offering Lem also has no idea of values? New player, only ever saw Ral and Thul and is amazed by this new thing, he never saw before? Reads that Death's Web is BIS for his Necro, offers the rune with no malicious intention whatsoever.oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years agoYes, I understand, and it's also annoying in real life. Trading without market knowledge in a free market might result in being preyed upon, who would have guessed? Better call the predators scum so the ignorant can feel better about themselves.
OP
We've been down that road; it was mentioned earlier. When I use that example above it's implied the buyer has a tendency to make similar offers and it's not a sample size of 1.PrincipalOShagH wrote: 3 years ago I don't know if we've been down this road in this discussion (like in all the others before), but maybe the one offering Lem also has no idea of values? Your point is flawed, I'm afraid. The ignorant don't know that they're being preyed upon as such. In fact they probably feel good because they think it was a good deal. lolMarcWizard wrote: 3 years ago Trading without market knowledge in a free market might result in being preyed upon, who would have guessed? Oh, another one of these. Will they ever stop? Probably not.
Good day to you, dear OP.

OP
It puts me exactly where I am and always have been in this thread: An observer and commenter looking to inform the one who thinks they had a good deal that they probably didn't, hence the PSA.MarcWizard wrote: 3 years agoAnd if the lowballer feels good because they had a good deal, and the prey feels good because they think they had a good deal, where does that place you?oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years agoWe've been down that road; it was mentioned earlier. You seem to misunderstand me. You describe exactly what i mean with real life comparison. The problem of your analogy it doesn't work because you want to proof unethical behavior. It maybe that the mechanics are comparable to the real world, the ethical consequences are not. If in real life, exploitation can be a great problem for the society because it can damage to person life and that creates social tension. But this is a game, if somebody got exploited, what damage does it? The person is a little sad if they ever find out and the other one has virtual Wealth until the next ladder. Don't understand me wrong, i don't like exploiting other person but also this is just a game with no real value so i don't think we need to stigmatize lowballing (in real life it is another story for me). In the end it is just a game.oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years ago Who said anything about real life? I mentioned the hacking because you need to hack the person account to see what he haves to be sure what the financial situation is (does he have more then 3 Ist?) so we can talk about potential explotation. If you don't have your explanation is just a good as my explanation.
Its funny that you say i use my broken english to twist and misrepresent. Yes i use hyperbole because this is the way i feel you write. For me your trying to stigmatize most lowballing as scumy behavior overall but i fail the see the real damage it does. A socialist market is just a idea to prevent lowballing so i thought it might be something your after.oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years ago If you're not a politician, you really ought to be one with the way you use language to twist and misrepresent things and others. Just because it is there doesn't mean i have to use it or support it. The possible Involvement of real money is the reason, i will never use it and go to this site instead. Don't we have the price history on this site already for that? And in my opinion you fail to inform those, i don't think your thread is more visible then the price check or BillyMaysed pinned thread.oldboldsummoner wrote: 3 years ago It puts me exactly where I am and always have been in this thread: An observer and commenter looking to inform the one who thinks they had a good deal that they probably didn't, hence the PSA.
While I think I understand what the OP is trying to do here with this thread, ultimately it is the individual's responsibility to be informed to make their own trades and get the best deal for their goods, or whatever needs met by trade, and to avoid being "ripped off." I do agree with one thing though, yes low-ballers are annoying, but guess what? If you don't like the offer, then don't trade with them. If they keep hassling you, ignore them, squelch like jbmc suggested, etc. I've only been here a few weeks and made several transactions, I've never had any issues with low-balling, and whenever I would buy or sell anything or make any offers, it would always be within the ballpark, I check the prices and sales history of whatever I buy and sell, etc. I do believe most of us here are adults and we can handle ourselves just fine. If someone does think they got an unfair transaction, they can bring it up, share it with the community, and perhaps people can learn from it if it really is the case. I have yet to see any posting about anything of the sort happening on here though.
