Description

With extremely high damage, 40% crushing blow, and an Enchant proc which adds a large attack rating bonus, all alongside 40% faster hit recovery, as well as a defense and resistance boost (useful since the wielder will not be wearing a shield), Obedience is certainly an excellent way to level a playing field in Hell Difficulty.

All for two common runes and three runes that are not at all hard to obtain. As a polearm, this is equippable by Act 2 mercenaries, and is one of the best weapons available for them without needing to pay an arm and leg.

As of Patch 2.4, Obedience can also be built in any Spear, including Amazon Spears.

This runeword is mighty, and highly recommended to anyone, especially merc-dependant builds. A bright example of "give me two, please" items for surprisingly low price. To maximize its effectiveness, provide your merc with life leech and non-weapon ias in armor and Helm (Treachery, Vampire Gaze, Andariel's Visage, smth).

Obedience + Guardian Angel + Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest amounts to 90 resist all on merc and gives him a life leech, so it's a budget setup to survive Travincal runs (or pretty much anything else). He can also do some damage thanks to Obedience . This might be a cheap alternative to more expensive builds that is still effective.

Obedience is one of the mid game best in slot choices for a leveling Barbarian using the Leap Attack skill. Some may not realize that with the newer patches, Leap Attack is so strong that one can shop two open socket flails in act two making Steel runewords and have it carry them all the way until Act 4 nightmare with little difficulty. Once you reach Act 4 normal though, you're able to shop War Hammers with higher base damage. Leap Attack doesn't benefit from attack speed, and two handers are slightly slower Leap attacks than one handers. That said, since attack speed doesn't matter, the biggest damage stick you can make wins out, so Obedience having huge defense, resistances, stats, crushing blow, - target defense, attack rating from Enchant, faster hit recovery, and of course the 370% enhanced damage, makes this almost best in slot for a flier barb. Other option for mobility benefits would be Insight given the Meditation, attack rating, and Critical Strike chance.

As of Patch 2.4, this runeword can be placed in Spears, making it a strong choice for SpearZons specializing in Fend.

Due to the Druid's favorable IAS breakpoints while using hafted weapons, a Werewolf specializing in Fire Claws can make excellent use of this weapon's unique combination of potent melee affixes and -25% to Enemy Fire Resistance.

I just made an Obedience in an Ethereal Cryptic Axe and I tested it replacing the Insight in an ethereal Tresher. My merc is everything. I couldn’t make a Fortitude for him yet. He is using a Duress. Obedience gives 20-30 all res so its possible to put Andariel’s visage even without a Ral rune.

Build this for my fire Chaos warlock. NM Chaos got a lot easier

Solid choice for an Eldritch Warlock using Mirrored Blades and Echoing Strike, if built in a Thresher beats non Eth Upgraded Ribcracker on damage output by a fair margin.

If you find yourself unlucky at finding an ethereal Thresher with 5 sockets or cubing one with the horradric receipt then this is your runeword.

Unfortunatly the difference between a 4os and a 5os ethereal Thresher is huge, but maybe this amazing runeword makes up for it at least a little bit :P

If you wish to use Obedience for Fire Warlock, I suggest using 5os Eth Scythe for low requirements (Well, Hel Rune furthering this too).

And because it is so dirt cheap and available on around early to mid-nightmare, you can reroll Obedience many times to get around until you get 30 @Res at least. (You can reroll to get near to perfect +Def as well if you need.)

Not to mention cheap and easy -fire resistance toward enemies as well!

The drawback is it won’t grant FCR and less @Res, unlike Obsession, but due to being dirt cheap, it is easier to obtain than Obsession and you have Fire Pierce to kill fire immune monsters with Flame Rift equipped easier.

Since you have to use Sigil Death to explode enemies as well, Phoenix is pretty irrelevant since it needs corpses to replenish your life and mana. Oh, and the price to make this runeword is so pricey as well.

Therefore, Obedience’s weaknesses can be mitigated by equipping FCR items and @Res items to compensate this.
