On dragondin, I ended up going Last Wish on an act 5 merc for the Life Tap proc. Having Life Tap up in higher player count games keeps the dragondin alive where it wouldn't otherwise have enough leech ( Thorns heralds or burly heralds in general). The budget option would be Dracul's Grasp and either an act 1 merc with Faith or a Mania merc cause that missing glove IAS has to come from somewhere to hit Zeal BP.Queegon wrote: 1 day ago(I am running that combination of merc+gear with my dragondin. P1 the dragondin doesn't even need a merc or anything except Charge and inventory space to pick up loot.
A5 Merc with 2x Plague for proccing Lower Resist is a helpful addition on p1 to around p3. On higher p counts, i use to switch to Last Wish for the same reasons you stated

hmm tried outthe fire a3 fire with my dragondin confessor, not bad. 142 str at lvl 89, wears Chains of Honor, ethereal Spirit Monarch, Spirit Dimensional Blade, and -15 Flickering Flame he borrows from my sorcs' stash. 2.7k dmg, 2.5 fireballs per second.

maybe will switch to +15/+3 Fireball Ormus' Robes in a few levels and socket it with an uber jewel.. if no other crazy idea comes in in the meantime

If you want to have a companion for your pally, use a lightning A3 for Static Field.
AnywaA... If you like, you can run your A3 Merc. But what's the point compared to other mercs? Even a confessor with Conviction would benefit more from fana aura on A1, wouldn't he?
And regarding your firezon comparison: Your firezon has Pierce and a sunder and still sucks balls. "Almost half as strong as a firezon" is not a strong argument, is it?

I was recently exploring updates to my dragondin and considering the merits of Lower Resist from Plague because that is what I used to use. Couple takeaways: Non immune enemies are getting reduced to nothing with Conviction anyway (-150) so LR is doing nothing there. Immune enemies are getting broken with sunder but does Lower Resist not apply at a reduced effectiveness on sundered enemies? Something like -8 resist? So not nothing, but also not a whole lot. i run with Vigor until a Herald or act boss spawns. the switch to Conviction, convert the pack with Conversion, and finish off the Herald with Zeal.
don't see how Fanaticism would benefit the confessor. a5 works fine too. a3 has the advantage of providing fire res and being ranged/less suicidal vs heralds. best would probably be emilio with Holy Freeze and Decrepify to minimize the heralds' risk
and to firezon's defence, she is not that bad. 3k+ dmg, -53 fire res, 3 Arrows per second, immortal valk.. better than necro i would say
