Has anyone tried this?
I’ve been thinking about building a fire aura sorc. I have my Dragon armor, Flickering Flame and Hand of Justice from my fire auradin, but I obviously can’t use the Dragon Shield from my pally. Is it worth making a Dragon for my sorc? Maybe in a trolls nest or a Hyperion?
Don’t wanna waste the runes so curious if anyone has tried this???
Was thinking a Fb/ Hydra build

Can be used to make Runewords:

If you go with Flickering Flame, Hand of Justice and 2 x Dragon then there's no way you can get to 105 FCR breakpoint. Even 20 FCR amulet won't cut it (20 Magefist + 20 arach + 2x10 rings + 20 amu = 80 FCR).
I see two options:
Either option will also give your build resistences that it will need because Dragon does not offer any resistences, or faster hit recovery, or even magic find like its (imho better) cousin Dream.
I can't comment on how strong (or helpful) the Holy Fire aura would be with maxed Fire Mastery. I've never tried it.
I see two options:
- Swap the Hand of Justice for a Heart of the Oak for a level 28 Holy Fire aura. You'll need an amulet with at least 5 FCR to get to your breakpoint.
- Swap the Dragon Shield for a 35 FCR Spirit shield for a level 30 Holy Fire aura and you get to keep the -20 fire res from Hand of Justice. It also saves you from rolling another Dragon in a Monarch shield. You'll need an amulet with at least 10 FCR to get to your breakpoint.

If you offer what I ask for, you can add me on bnet for faster trade.
About Holy Fire Sorceress x Holy Fire Paladin
Fire Mastery 40 would give +303% to fire damage to Sorceress
While Paladin with 20 points in Resist Fire and 20 points Salvation will have +620% damage to Holy Fire Damage (so Sorceress will deal less than half damage...), and Paladin can self use Conviction together (way better than Merc's Conviction with Infinity)

Right, it's not as strong as dragondin, but the sorc build has native Teleport and has damaging spells, Static Field, a lot of other stuff
It's not a bad build, although not as good as the dual Dream sorc build, but it's fun to experiment with. That's about as far as I got with it, though, experimenting. If you have the runes and like aura builds, it's worth trying
Edit: Found an old thread discussing this: forums/dragon-flickering-flame-hand-of- ... gon%20sorc

OP
Thank you all! This definitely helped. I did try it without the Dragon Shield and it was decent. Each pulse would take off around 1/3 of most monster health.
I wouldn’t recommend building all the needed rune words JUST to use on a sorc, so make em in items that favor pally builds lol.
I will say using HOJ with Phoenix and Flickering Flame is pretty solid. You are still able to hit the 105 BP. It’s kinda a wash tho vs using Eschuta’s Temper. Is -20 to res better than +20 to fire dmg? Since sorc has so much already? Bc HOJ doesn’t have useful stats for a caster. So it’s hard to beat HOTO with all its useful stats even without the added elemental dmg.

-20% enemy fire res is better than +20% fire skill damage, it will have a bigger impact on your overall damage output.Scellis24 wrote: 5 months agoIs -20 to res better than +20 to fire dmg? Since sorc has so much already?
The +20 fire damage works additively with Fire Mastery, so if you already have say 310% from Fire Mastery, an extra 20 makes it 330, which is an effective damage increase of +4.9%. Whereas the -res will amount to a more bigger effective damage increase (how much depends on the mob's base fire resistance and how much other -res you have).

The aura damage is multiplicative for multiple aura items--the game pulses for each item equipped. HOJ is lvl16 x 1 pulse. HOJ + Dragon = lvl 30 x 2 pulses. HOJ + Dragon + Dragon = lvl44 x 3 pulses. If you make a Dragon Shield, you would probably start 1-shotting some weaker monsters
You lose the 105 breakpoint, but that's ok. The 63 breakpoint is more than enough for efficient Teleport speed. If you are running Hydra or firewall, you don't really need the FCR for damage anyway

And as the Holy Fire's radial damage depends on the max radius (enemies close to you take the double damage of the enemies at max distance - damage increase linearly as the distance is reduced), the radius increment with extra levels indirect increases your damage a lot against far monsters

Ex:
Max Radius 10, damage against monsters at 10 yards: 1/2 of the close radial dmg.
Max Radius 20, damage against monsters at 10 yards: 75% off the close radial dmg (an overall 50% increase)
