This morning in Sanctuary: How NOT to do the Ubers

When a DClone spawns and I am at my PC, I also try to farm some

Annihilus in public trading games (only if no one else is already engaging the DClone). This morning while browsing some public games after a Walk I saw one with the name "help".

I joined it and when I saw four portals nearly in the same place in

Harrogath I already had a bad feeling In the game was a Kicksin and a WW Barb who manifestly where trying to kill the Ubers - and it seemed it was not going well. I thought taking a quick look to asess the situation would not hurt and therefore I entered the

Uber Tristram Portal. Well, I was "dead" wrong When I arrived, the screen was filled with Uber Mephs minions, he himself was next to the portal and I had forgotten to BO (important side note: NEVER enter a foreign

Uber Tristram Portal without BO ). Then also my

Life Tap did not proc and I was dead in seconds. Worst part: I was nearly at lvl 95 and lost a ton of exp. So what should I do?

I decided to stay in the game and joined with the Pally of my son because I wanted at least recover my body to regain some of my exp. This time with BO I got Uber Meph and his minions lured away. I then left, switched to my main PC and recovered my body. In the meantime two further guys had joined the party and where happily MFing in other areas of the game So this was the situation: A completely aggroed (and healed) Uber Meph in a five player game. I quickly pondered if I should leave this mess or stay. But I knew I will not sleep tonight knowing this bastard killed me and got away with it. Therefore I decided to give it another try - knowing this could set me back a long way on my journey to lvl 95.

I quickly optimized my gear to get at least 290+ lightning res (and, btw, this time I forgot to use

Enchant ), refilled my

Belt with Rejus AND activated BO outside town . Then I went in and directly engaged Uber Meph. I decided to use a Reju whenever my health is down to 50%. Luckily

Life Tap proced immediately and after a felt Eternity and three Rejus (and a max dose of adrenaline in my own body ) I got him down and could secure the torch.

Fortunately, when I asked whose game this is only the Barb answered. And since we all know that "fortune favors the bold and the foolish" he got a 20/18 Pally torch! In return for my help he gave me his old Pally torch (15/11). So if any new player needs a Pally torch just reply here and ask for it. First come first serve

Well, I don´t know if they even realized someone was doing Ubers in this game. But it is indeed not very nice to join a game with the name "help" and not caring about what is going on. Besides that, of course I adviced the creator of this "public game" not to try something like that again

Haha you should've kept the torch!! Not worth it making someone happy when they've done dumb things like those c;

Sooner or later, they had to have realized what was happening. Unfortunately, any public game is open to someone's attempt to split MF.

Hopefully your advice landed with the creator. I can't remember playing in multiplayer uber games other than ones with my friends, never mind a public uber game. Aside from the possibility of having the torch taken from you by an opportunistic player, the challenge of having higher HP mobs when you don't need them or aren't getting help from other players isn't an ideal playing experience.

Sure, stealing their torch would be the best way how to show them how stupid they are... OMG

Btw, about these public games open to MF - for me it is OK to join public games designated for this purpose - "split games", "I TZ you do not" and similar. When trading game is created (I mean trading game where 1 player wants 1 concrete thing, free games are another case), for me it is ignorance to jump into it and farm there (I simply left in this case, because my games are for 2 players, so it was clear that nobody can trade with me - and today I do not trade ingame anymore only because of that), the same for example in the

Baal runs where chars are not really high level. I was x-times in the

Baal runs, where quite weak chars were struggling in front of

Baal and 94+ chars were doing Chaos or TZ. I know it happens and always will, but nobody can convince me that it is OK.

I know it is nice leveling on more players and there are not always split games, I would like to level faster too, ofc.. but I rather will be lower level than ruining (or just risking I will ruin it) game of somebody, who just needed something.

(the "best" till now was somebody, who killed meph in the rushing game (we weren't there yet, ofc))

I'm not so sure that it's ignorance rather than willful disregard. To clarify, I didn't mean open as in welcome, but open as in prone to less scrupulous players taking advantage. If it was discussed with the game creator, then that's fine, but that's often not the case. It happens a lot in rush games.

It is funny when the split MF players get overwhelmed by certain mobs, die, and quit the game. That never fails to amuse everyone else in a game.

When someone joins my trade game and immediately goes to farm something instead of responding to my "hi", I just follow them to their farm spot and start helping them and picking up items. That gets them to leave real quick!

Great story, and kudos to you for staying and finishing it. And if the pally torch is still available, I'd be glad to take it off your hands Trying to build a paladin to take on ubers myself, and it's good to know it can be done even against long odds.
