The absolute biggest thing I expect them to do is something like patch 2.4/2.5. And that's about what I hope they do.

If they announce something like a new expansion, I will have to assume we have stepped into some kind of weird alternate timeline.

I've only just started playing the game again and the only thing that's really annoying me at the moment is the limited storage space, I know that was much worse back then when we didn't have a shared stash but at the moment it's really annoying me.
I'm currently collecting runes and jewels the most, and my whole stash is full.
If I ever find a good item I can make a mule for it and store it there (inventory+personal stash) but otherwise...meh.

You aren't. I have seen a strong sentiment like this as well. The more likelihood of anything is much needed QoL changes.

A lot of this swirl is being dangerously weaponized when the reality is, we have zero affirmative proof, or evidence of change coming.

1. The legacy roles have been posted for over a year now; THIS IS NOT NEW

2. R&D focus groups have existed; this includes Diablo Partners (creators) all of which have already mentioned all of the QoL for well over 1-2 years now; zero implementation

3. The infamous tweet that was open-ended at best.

I'm not a pessimist, but a pragmatist. Staying skeptical only has upside—you're shielded from misplaced hope, and genuinely delighted if it all comes together.

Yeah, QoL stuff would be great and I don't see any reason to go beyond that. The QoL they have already added to D2R has been nothing but amazing IMO, and also hasn't (in my eyes) "changed" the game that we all know and love. I think a new act would certainly change everything. It's just been too long. I'd love to see a few more character slots to make online characters, maybe a few other QoL additions and such, but I'm happy with the game as it is right now.

Problem is that this is a massive undertaking, and the balance changes between D2/LoD were already earth-shattering (runewords, etc.) I really don't trust Blizz to implement balancing changes properly.

I am very open to PD2 style QoL, and maybe a paragon system of maps so we aren't just farming TZ Andy, quitting maps and rejoining maps after 30s. We just need a place to kill things for longer periods than a single maps offerings -- without having a significant change to loot or mechanics.

I don't know where the sentiment came from that a nonexistent development team can sprout out of nowhere to create completely new content for a game in secret where access to certain parts of the game's source code necessary to significantly re-engineer the game is presumably lost. A new act requires story writers, voice acting, and new art assets. For the last several major content updates dating back to the mid-2000s, we've gotten supercharged remixes of act bosses reusing existing assets, and somehow people think a new act with a new boss and new environment is going to happen now?

This is ATVI MSFT we're talking about and people are somehow hoping that they hired PD2 modders, and also granted them a fan license to continue allowing PD2 to stay active (remember that was a sticking point for Vivendi and King's Quest fan projects).

I'm not familiar with how well the social media team at ATVI MSFT matches the hype to what they actually intend to deliver, aside from failing to read the room and pushing forward with unwelcome initiatives (AI, AI, AI, Copilot, Windows 11 TPM e-waste and planned obsolescence, 365 cloud everything, screw your privacy rights, Recall).

Anyway, don't get your hopes up. A 25 days of terror event is more likely than permanent new content.

My atomic DNA and gut say you are on the money. Unless this has all been a ruse and 'Diablo Partners' are playing dumb and they are aware of a so called Act6 or finishing Act4, it is far from likely.

Consider that Vicarious was completely dismantled altogether, Blizzard then shifted into Microsoft, we haven't seen a material update since Patch 2.7 (Season 4); it would seem a dramatic long-shot for a material change like the introduction of

Terror Zones to be introduced into the game. At least, not any time "soon".

Diablo 1 or Diablo 3 Remastered is more likely I would hedge versus a revolutionary expansion pack introducing new content, characters, etc.

I guess we all must patiently wait and see...

Absolutely not. It would be totally weird.
It would be fun however if they picked up on the suggestion i gave many years ago when they asked people to send suggestions, randomly generated areas that can spawn off of any normal area, and may have a random mini-quest.

What's needed though, rune, gem etc stacking, increased stash size, plus one shared tab(and a 2nd personal tab!) and/or increase size to 12x12 would make a huge difference.
And the long overdue, giving all the "worthless" equipment something extra. Especially several of the lowend Sets are terribly weak. And there's a hoard of uniques that were not even useful, much less good, even from the start. More use of bonuses that scale with level would be a great idea to improve on that.

What do you mean by "finishing act 4"? Was it originally intended to be a full 6 quests?

Also, I would gladly welcome a D1 resurrection!

If we could stack all of those things, I could condense 6 of my mules as well as 2 shared stash tabs into 1 single mule LOL. Here's to hoping!

Act 4 is widely considered to be shorter and less developed than other acts, with evidence suggesting it was cut short due to time constraints and the need to fit the game onto three discs. While not officially "unfinished" in the sense of being incomplete or bug-ridden, it was truncated from what was originally planned to have more content.

While not affirmatively or explicitly stated from blizzard, modders and data miners have found evidence of more quests and content that were likely planned for Act 4 but never implemented, including graphics for Diablo's soulstone and abandoned quest code.

Yes, it absolutely was.

They got ordered to finish it ASAP, so they cut away more than half the act so they could release the game on time.

I even heard an old rumor that originally we were supposed to kill Diablo, fetch his soulstone (the red one) and only then destroy it, together with

Mephisto's Soulstone, at

The Hellforge. Notice that you need to hit the soulstone twice - a possible leftover that we were meant to destroy two soulstones? Allegedly it was scrapped because it'd feel awkward for the players to kill the final boss and then have to complete a 'side' quest in order to beat the game.

And speaking of cut content, there is much more. Personally I'd love to have guilds re-implemented, as an incentive to play together.
