Never done hard core, but have only died twice (one completely careless half paying attention on cursed dolls) with my fire warlock. Ring of Fire is a great defensive (and offensive) spell because it knocks back enemies
Do not farm areas with dolls. Especially if you have bound demon. It will get you instakilled
Running around naked with a Wirt's Leg is pretty safe as a warlock.
Jokes aside, if you know how to play a HC sorc, fire warlock is easier. If you know how to play a HC Necro, summon Warlock is safer. I mean, he is best of both worlds and gets 3hp/vita, i.e 50% more than other casters.
No clue about how safe a warlock is as a melee fighter, cleaving a levitated two-hander but I think you got the overall picture.

As a Cleaver you want as many enemies around you as possible. Super crowdy situation that are garanteed Death for other melee classes, are the perfect enviroment for a Cleaver.
But for sure its a dangerous style of play for HC and therefore not the safest Warlock.
I’m tested different HC warlock setups and I end up with summoner ( 93 on the way to 99) using 2 Tainted and a bound demon. I started with fire and change to summoner in hell. The play style it’s quite safe, you stay far from danger and just send your demons to do the work . Not the fastest one, but robust and easy play. By the way no issues with TZ either.
