Description

Hello,

Not sure if this is a user setting or which default would be more useful but, when ever I click to read post, it will take me to see the very first entry in that post on the very first page. With short posts with very few entries, this is quite usually and not much inconvenience to scroll to last entry. But for some posts eg DClone which have hundreds of pages and posts going back 4 years, I think it would be more useful to land right on the latest post? Not sure if this is an easily changeable thing or if everyone agrees.

It depends on how you open a topic.

If you click the topic title in the forum list, you are taken to the start of that topic.

On the right hand side within that same list, you see the last post's author and time, along with a little gray arrow: Clicking that arrow instead of the topic title will take you to the latest post, rather than the start of the topic.

The same is true when you open up a topic via clicking the "read" indicator to the left of the title (easier to click than the arrow above): This, too will take you to the last post.

If you navigate to a topic via the 5 titles listed under "latest discussion" within the right-hand side banner, it will also take you to the last entry.

Really the topic name is pretty much the only way in to take you to the start of topic, rather than end which I'd argue is a good thing to have at least one option for.

Personally, what I'm missing and would love to see is a "first unread" navigation. All of the options to open up a topic are either start of topic for one of them or end of topic for the rest. But if there are multiple unread posts in there, it'd be great to just jump to the first unread post by default. Especially for cases with multiple unread posts spanning multiple pages as the entire topic gets marked read when you jump to last by opening the topic. So once you go back to the previous page, you need to remember content or manually compare timestamps to "when was I last here?" to see what's new as you don't even get an unread/new indicator on that prior page anymore, despite never having seen those posts.
Ideally with scrolling to last entry that accounts for screenshot size and whatnot. As is, when navigating to a post/entry, any screenshots in posts above it only load afterwards and don't get adjusted for in scrolling state. So you jump to the right post, then the screenshots above it load and once that's done, you need to keep scrolling down manually to get back to that post you originally navigated to.
