Description
Hi,
I just lost my 20th ++++ level 85+++ character HC quitting game when everything ok ingame (full life, max res, little mobs around but no champion or crazy pack), but not in town.
99 % of the time, nothing bad happens, but 1 % of the time the character stay in the game till he die.
Does it happen to you ? In public games, i see ppl leaving game like that (i.e Baal runs), but do they lose character like me ? It s pretty recurrent.

I've never once died to "leaving while safe".
Once you're out, you're out and you won't be killed.
There is however one distinct difference between offline and online play:
Offline, soon as you hit esc to open the menu to leave, your game pauses so you're completely safe.
Online, the game continues around you. Merely opening the menu hence doesn't protect you from anything and you will still be subject to attacks (and potential Death) until you successfully made it past save and exit. Plus possibly a slight delay based on ping/performance.
Odds are, those times you died, you weren't as safe as you may have thought and ended up getting killed while you were still on the menu, trying to select the exit option.

I was in Nilhattac area , and they where anly 3 normal Beast immune phys i couldn t finish.
So i escape quit normally, and my character full life Stormshield stayed in the game till he die.
PS : i never play offline
Escape quit is like playing russian roulette
Not HC, but I died earlier today because of a connection error when I was half a screen away from a Council Member.
At least on Switch, there is some delay before you exit as well as issue with syncing. I have a friend and we use gamechat on Switch and sometimes see very different things such as where corpses and enemies are.
So between the delay and desynch issues, I can imagine your frustration and I'm sorry.

Died similarly as that, but with even less mobs (just 3 around)
What i hate the most is the fact that it s russian roulette. 99 % of time it's good, and 1 % of time you'r fucked, nothing to do.
Blizzard should fix this
Woooooooow, ok. Good to know since i wanted to start my very first hc char in d2 this season.DCloneSuck wrote: 1 day agoSchnorki wrote: 1 day agoI've never once died to "leaving while safe".

There has to be a serious issuse then, your video proofed it.
I can see what you see not. Vision milky, then eyes rot.
When you turn, they will be gone, whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be, shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind, cast down into the Halls of the Blind.

Don't recall it ever happening... maybe 2 or 3 times, but im not as extreme about the game as some.
Kind of the reason I stopped online HC. When you die because you make a mistake, it's fine. But if you die because of a glitch or a disconnect, it's just a bad game experience.
Playing HC SSF right now.
Hell completed: Sorc, Druid, Paladin, Ama
Nightmare completed: Assa
Normal completed: Necro, Barb
Iron Man (Paladin): Nightmare A1

That video is a solid example of (the main reason as to) why I don't bother with HC. Though in that case it would've at least been avoidable.
Death tends to not be caused by player failure but simply by lag, desync or disconnect.
In said video's case, the server simply didn't get/process the 'quit game' correctly/in time resulting in the character remaining in the game (hence the "already in a game" message), at which point he then slowly but surely gets taken out by the mobs around him.
Avoidable in that case as you can simply TP to town before you quit or actually clear the stuff around you to create a safe zone but the underlying issue remains the same and can just as well get you killed mid-game.
Not much blizz can do to fully fix that though. Improve by making the servers less crappy again (overdue, seeing how excessive desync has become), sure, but never fully fix as they can't control the full client or middleman side of it.

I don't know anyone who TP to town 100 % of the time before exiting game (especially when running in chain 2000 times countess, nilattack or coucil..).
Plus it's all about random, cause 99 % of the time esc quit work nice, it's like esc quit is Russian Roulette..
I lost most of my hlvl characters to that, it s so disgusting that everytime i quit ladder and come back the ladder after to again lose another character to that...
Make me disgusted of this game
