You can fill a Tome of Town Portal from merchants by holding shift and right clicking scrolls. If you find yourself constantly going to a vendor that doesn't sell Identify or Town Portal scrolls and your tome is empty, sell the tome to the vendor and buy it back. It will be full.
While searching for waypoints. Open town portal at the locations you need to revisit. This will save you some time. Because you can just enter the portal from town after using the waypoint.
The Tome of Town Portal can be eschewed by players seeking to maximize their inventory space by placing a Scroll of Town Portal into a belt slot. This, of course, will come at the cost of potions available for easy access.
