Description

So, I read that poison dmg had bug and is not calculated in frames where any other damage is applied. I am now playing a venomancer with half a Trang Oul's for poison reduction. I also use the firewall from that set. If the bug is true, it means the
Fire Wall
actually negates my
Poison Nova
damage? I am trying to test it out, but it is not so easy.

Yes, any damage done to a target except by poison itself stops poison tick on the same target. And it's even worse when playing online compared to offline.
  • When playing offline, damage only stops poison tick for 1 frame (the frame on which the damage took place).
  • When playing online, however, damage stops poison tick for 8 frames (the frame on which the damage took place, plus an additional 7 frames).
(and the same rule applies to monster health regen)

ok, so it makes sense as Poison DMG is applied as a negative regen. This is especially contra productive with Trang'Oul's where the firewall has the highest DPS, but it will negate the
Poison Nova
. I just managed to test on some creeps in hell act4, and it seems to be dying much slower from
Fire Wall

As @ShadowHeart stated, you shouldn't use any "other" damage at all. That include minions, fire damage etc etc.

And, finally, I don't know if you are aware, but poison damage have several mechanics when stacked with other sources of poison damage. You should look it up as well.

I had several poison necromancers over the ladders. You should stick to
Poison Nova
and forget about
Fire Wall
. Trang-ouls are really good for the -% Enemy Poison Resistance - you should stack it on yourself the max you can. Stack Crushing Blow on your merc as well and you're good to go.

Question, does this interaction affect Venom the same way? Because if so, Venom is literally useless online...

As far as I know,
Venom: Skill
is affected by this but isn’t “self-cancelling”. I.e., only the tick of poison already affecting a target is paused by damage, and
Venom: Skill
is delivered by a physical strike and then the 10-frame poison begins on the next frame. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone has tested this in detail yet. But yeah, other players, mercs, pets, etc, will interfere with
Venom: Skill
’s poison.
