Hi, recently, I come back to play normal...

A1 merc like this, 6os bow,
Ancient Armor
, 3os
Mask
fill in poison jewel.

Does anyone have any recommendation for a2 merc setup? Usually when I reach a2 , it is likely around lv5-7.

to survive duriel, give him ~4 Thawing Potion before the fight, it boosts his cold res for a while
(you can also take them to boost your own cold res if you are the one tanking the dmg)

You barely gain experience in act2 lvl 5-7, id recommend staying in act1 for some exp until 12-14 at least.

Act2 merc get stronk 2h polearm (Insight is great runeword), armor could be anything really, I use Smoke I think it was called not sure and
Helm
well pretty much anything you need; either dmg or resists.

Smoke is good idea, I will surely use it to pass nightmare and with jail break...

May not be enough; after all cold res only reduces a part of the damage received, and there is also physical damage.
Keep feeding the merc with potions, ideally rejuvs to save him from
Duriel
's damage bursts.

of course, but the cold dmg is ~60% of his dmg, if you can reduce that to 20% you reduce the overall dmg by ~50% which makes it much easier

It's much easier to level in A1, so i ususally try to time it so i fight
Andariel
at level 15(because that lets me equip some extra gear that makes it easy).
And then end A3 at around level 25, to avoid the XP reductions from being below 25 during A4 and A5.

For the A2 merc, at that low level, there's almost nothing you CAN use, but 3os
Mask
with psn jewels and 3 or 4 os armor with psn jewels and a 4 os weapon with, again 4 psn jewels... That gives 200 psn dmg/2s which is a lot. But at such low levels, he's still going to die all the time, especially in A2 from things like beetles releasing charged

The trick for Act 2 (or Act 5) is to give him some life seal equipment 😉
Preferably on Helm/Armor, as you generally want some specific weapon - like Insight or "the most damage weapon I could find until now" - instead of a bad weapon with life steal weapon...

weapon, fill with +light resist, + psn and a little bit +life if I cant find things.

maybe if I tank well, he can help on a2 boss...

Andariel's Visage
+ Fortitude
(and you will find them way before some "godly rare jewels" 😉)

Or Delirium + Chains of Honor if you prefer more crowd control (and don't need another curse as
Confuse
will override other curses)

lv 1 affinx is fixed, I havent try this way yet. Some guy told me but I havent 100% trust it. Likely if it is 4 affinx, it will have poison, resist, -req, and some bad thing

-and setup in my end gear, this part is just like go back past and wield godly things with godly merc kill boss...

but I have feeling,

and after boss are too strong...this merc may still die.

Following the standard rules, there are 9 affixes with alvl 1 and 13 affixes with alvl 2- (the previous 9 plus the 4 single resists), so you may end up with something like
Rare Jewel 5 defense 10 Stamina 10%
Gold
😓😓

You will probably have to reroll much more than 2 times to get something valuable.... 🤔

That is the problem with mercs; they wont survive in bosses. Not until you have really good gear and even then they MIGHT still die, most likely not.

Act 2 @ levels 6-7 is ludicrous...unless you are a masochist or experienced rusher on a twinky nimbus cloud.

Get some levels in
Tamoe Highland
or 10 rounds of
Tristram
.

Duriel
will eat your Act 2 normal merc as a starter due to his A.I bordering on retardation.

The Act1 merc will be safer.

When you are past Normal, get the 3 combo set meal of Cure + Insight + Treachery on a
Prayer
merc ftw.

Expect trade delays due to new update on POE2 starting 29 Aug

You can't get xp in Act 2 any earlier than lvl 9, and even then you'll need
Enchant
or something to kill stuff. Ending Act 1 at lvl 14-16 is a solid place of strength. Act 2 merc is great vs
Duriel
with Thawing Potions like others suggested. Giving them any gear that adds cold damage to their attacks will help. Get the
Prayer
merc. Also, shop around or just watch your item drops along the way for anything that has
Weaken
charges (any blue/yellow
Helm
,
Wand
,
Dagger
,glove could spawn with it). If you can manage to get a
Hawkmail
(unique armor) for your merc and/or a
Death's Guard
(Set Item
Sash
) for yourself, the Cannot Be Frozen would be very handy. But yeah, marinate in Thawing Potions before entering, then just go all out max damage output. If you're running Paladin,
Thorns
Aura is a no-brainer vs. Norm
Duriel
. Easy peasy.
