Half the HC characters I've had die died in normal difficulty (one got surrounded in the Cold Plains by a boss pack of Yetis and ran out of stamina, one died to Diablo's red lightning, and one died to Bremm Sparkfist's lightning enchanted arse).Semirotta wrote: 6 months agoI know this is a year old topic but someone already necroed it an hour ago so here is my comment to this matter;
If you are geared up and above 85 lvl, how the f-ck you even die? I mean, I play softcore for desync reasons but I never die. Why and how do people die if not desyncs fault?
Every other character Death has been in Hell mode, so let's unpack them.
One was a FoHdin who got trapped in Uber Diablo's Bone cage and then fried to Death. Was undergeared and underleveled for tackling Hell mode.
Second was a bowsin trapsin hybrid who died to an archer boss pack somewhere in The Forgotten Tower. I believe she had amp damage on her.
Third was a summoner druid who also died in The Forgotten Tower but this time to a Blood Pack goatmen's Axe. He also got amp'ed.
Fourth and so far last character was a level 90 sorc who was doing Throne of Destruction terrorised and the tz had run out and then the minions of Destruction spawned and I got server desynced.
Every Death has taught me something about my playstyle and how I make my builds and I've learned from them. For instance, I've made another FoHdin and this one is heavily invested in Defensive auras. He has a fully synergised Holy Shield and maxed Defiance aura which is his main aura. My Frenzy barb merc handles all non-demons and non-undead and the Defiance aura synergises with his Iron Skin passive to make him an incredible tank. He's killed multiple Dclone spawns as well. I've yet to take him through the Ancients and kill Baal but that's the next step for that character.
The deaths of my bowsin and druid in The Forgotten Tower was due to a bit of recklessness on my part while also playing underpowered and 'off-meta' builds. But even then, I got amp'd damage both times and that should have been the sign I go back to town to get it cleared or not progress any further til it wore off. So 100% these were unforced errors that I've seen learned from. The sorc's Death stings a bit even now over a month after it happened but honestly I should have specced her to have Energy Shield active. She was dual element but could have been made into a fire spec or lightning spec (albeit with a specific gear selection that's not meta) but if I had had Energy Shield on with any TK synergy she likely would have survived the desync. Maybe. I dunno.
It's funny to me that everyone has all these problems with dolls and gloams, I have yet to die to a single one. What *has* killed me, like I listed above, are underrated monster types.Lvl 90+ character, no matter what character, should be so well geared with maximum resistances. You should not be dying to anything?
Something like explodey dolls might be a scary thing but thats the only thing I can think of that could kill you. Even souls are not that deadly.
I don't know but I agree with you, I don't see the point in playing hardcore if you're just going to revert from a save file.Why dont you just play softcore if you cheat Death anyway? what is the point playing hardcore if youre so afraid of Death? I mean, you cant brag about getting 99 with a hardcore char if you revived it 100 times on the way there.Bin Liu wrote: 6 months agoMy level 92 HC character sometimes dies, and I always restore it from a previous save file, which I think is a better balance: I still have very intense moments, but I also have the ability to regret. For this reason, I save frequently, and when I get high-level equipment, I deliberately enter the previous act from the Teleport station, which almost always causes the save file to be refreshed, and then I back it up without exiting the game..
Why play hardcore if you dont want hardcore? it wont change your game in any way other than the perma-Death, which you cheat. Why play at all in hardcore? makes no sense to me.
