Infinity lowers monster defence as well as resistances. So it's also useful for standard melee summons.
Real reason though is that all Necromancer builds always end up using Corpse Explosion which is 50% fire damage. For a mercenary weapon Infinity also does decent damage so all round good choice although there are other options.

Merc is your biggest damage dealer, so having a weapon with no enhanced damage / crushing blow is not a good idea. Also Pride has freezes target, which could destroy corpses so you cannot explode them.
I run an A1 Merc with Faith for my summon Necro. Is it BiS? No. Is it fun? Hell yes it is!
I'm willing to accept other forms of currency. Like Tokens, Keys, Perfect Gems, and certain minor runes in lieu of my asking price. I'm also willing to accept rune combinations that add up to my asking price.
