It should be the same, I am guessing it is a display error.

Every item that naturally have % Enhanced Defense base have defense = "max defense" + 1
(this includes Superior itens)

That's why it show 165 def (the
Alma Negra
- the unique
Sacred Rondache
possible - have +180-210% Enhanced Defense)

OBS: if you upgrade a Rare/Set/Unique item that have natural "% Enhanced Defense", the result item will have a random base defense (it will not follow the "max defense" + 1 rule anymore...)

Correct.

Though worth just pointing out that the "random base defense" after upgrading is random but within the normal possible range of the upgraded item version so it isn't like "entirely random". :)

Thx for answers !

A gotcha question:

Why does
Immortal King's Soul Cage
behave differently than all other items in this way?

It doesn't have an ED, but rather a static amount of defense added, but the base acts like a superior one always at 601 defense for a 1001 total.

As an example,
Trang-Oul's Wing
(and belt, and natalya's items, and many more set items) from the same (and even different) timeframes behave "correctly" and have a variable base defense.

Which one is the correct one and which one is the buggy one? Can we even know at this point?

Could it be because it gets ED% (+50%) from a set bonus (when wearing the complete set), and that the game takes it into account even though the bonus is hidden/inactive until the conditions have been met? 🤔

Those other set items don't have an ED% partial/full set bonus :)

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.

This sounds plausible enough. I'll take it.
Immortal King's Detail
and
Milabrega's Robe
also have %ED as a set bonus and static defense with base +1. Apparently there is no full set %ED (would work like
Defiance
aura, so I guess that's why).
Thanks for the insight, Shadowheart. I'm oblivious. :D
