I started making a
Holy Fire
auradin and I had a quick question about the interaction between the Paladin's aura and the one provided by Dragon. I do not have enough for Hand of Justice so I was considering making a Hustle
Phase Blade
(this will give me some nice ias from the fanat, the item, and the
Burst of Speed
proc), Phoenix shield, Dragon chest, and a Flickering Flame helmet.

My question is this, if I roll with
Zeal
on my left click and my pally's
Holy Fire
aura how does that interact with Dragon? Would this interaction be additive (my
Holy Fire
+ Dragon
Holy Fire
)? Or are they both separate instances of
Holy Fire
going on? I was just curious how this works because when I was messing around on maxroll it didn't seem like it gave me the option to activate both of them.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as always!

Cheers

They cancel each other. Depending which one has a higher level. If your natural
Holy Fire
skill is, letā€™s say 25, it will negate the Dragon aura coming from your armor, which is 14.

Maxroll is right. If multiple items provide the same aura, its level is the sum of aura levels from all items. But the same aura used as a character's skill is not combined with the one provided by items - only the highest level is used.
The only way to improve item-based aura, besides equipping more items, is through synergies (including Sorceress' masteries).

OP
Ok that is good to know. If my Dragon aura is the one that is active does the damage get the benefit of my synergies from fire resist?
7
Yes, that is the ideal for all auradin builds.
You get the aura (
Holy Fire
or/and
Holy Shock
) from items (HoJ, Dragon, Dream).
Put hard points into Synergies (
Resist Fire
,
Resist Lightning
,
Salvation
) to increase the damage of auras.
Finally, activate your own lvl 25
Conviction
aura to reduce enemy's resistance.

It works also for sorc because she has masteries to increase the damage of auras while Infinity from merc provides
Conviction
.

It doesn't work with other chars because they have nothing to increase the damage of auras.

pm me here (d2.
Io
) for trade
