Description

So I'm a fairly experienced D2 player, have gone through Hell multiple times on different classes, but I've never really played the game what I'd call to the fullest extent.

This time around, I'd like to try and maximize my characters with stuff like higher end runewords (like Heart of the Oak, Enigma etc) and fancy items like
Hellfire Torch
. I'd like to think I understand most of the mechanics but I have a few probably noob questions.

1. What do people mostly use
Perfect Gems
for? I keep them, but never really use them, and see they are a bit of a currency for some stuff.
2. Is there any value in keeping crappy magic rings and amulets to cube into different magic amulets and rings?
3. Same for jewels, should I keep crappy magic jewels?
4. I understand re-rolling charms is a thing - when should I typically start doing this?

Sorry, I know I could google most of these things but it generally just tells me what to do, rather than if it's worth doing if that makes sense.

Thanks!

Can be used to make Runewords:

1) Rerolling grand charms from
Baal
, diablo or nilithak in hell, because these are the only ones who can drop grand charms that have +1 skill AND 45 life
2) no, not really. Crafting depends on the item level of the ring/amulet. So you want high level items for that. E.g. ones you get from gambling with char levels 95+
3) you can trade bulk crap jewels for crafting purposes and get some mid runes for that (for jewels, the item level doesn't matter in crafting)
4) really only the grand charms listed in 1) make sense

All prices are negotiable.
All trades are Non-Ladder.

Let me address your questions in the same order you asked them:

1. Re-rolling Grand Charms, looking for skillers (
Baal
/ Diablo /
Nihlathak
Grand Charms would be the best for this, because of their ilvl) and also crafting (Perfect Amethysts are probably the most valuable ones).
2. I don't think so, but high ilvl amulets can get the +2 to <class> skills mod when crafted.
3. Yes, if you are into crafting as the ilvl of jewels is irrelevant.
4. I don't think re-rolling charms takes your character level into account, so it doesn't really matter for as long as the charm is of a high ilvl.

As previously stated...

1. Rerolling GCs. There are other items you could reroll Magic
Monarch
, Small Charms etc. But statistically GCs have more chances of getting something good rather than a JMOD off
Monarch
or 459 psn small charm. Because there are multiple skill charms rather than a 1:100000 item, although the latter is worth lots more. And if you have 6 perfect skulls and a rare item you can reroll to rare item of the same type i.e.
Circlet
amulets druid helms etc.
2. You can always transmute 3 rings to an amulet and 3 amulets to a ring. Best bet be 3 rings to amulet and getting a +3 Skills +10fcr amulet but wouldn't go out of my way for it.
3. Crafting junk, not necessary but nice to keep a couple just incase.

Xbox GT: Cinomed541 add me if you need someone to play with.

Being one of those people who crafts, the ilvl of the jewel doesnt matter. The ilvl of the said amulet (whatever item) and character level does however. (clvl / 2) + (amulet ilvl / 2) = crafted amulet ilvl

Yes, this is precisely the case.

That was my mess up, I thought you said the ilvl of jewel was relevant not irrelevant. My apologies

People mostly use Pgems to reroll grand charms. It's a big gamble, but if you win the jackpot, you can get an extremely valuable items (skillers with 45 life).
If you're trying to amass Wealth (to get some runewords) you might want to consider trading the pgems instead; Less variance that way.
At least the valuable ones (like pamethys), probably shouldn't ever reroll those, unless you're super wealthy and don't care!
