Description
I understand that Fade is massive, but 5% proc on being struck, i.e., one in 20 hits = dead Act 1 merc. Maybe it's good for Act 2/5 mercs? What am I missing?

I've never tried an Act 1 merc, but it's pretty solid on Act2/5 mercs. It lasts about five minutes so after it procs once it will typically stay up until you head back to town.
The 45% IAS on Treachery helps melee mercs stay alive if equipped with good lifesteal gear.
I tend to prefer Chains of Honor, Fortitude and Guardian Angel, however.
