I am trying to play everything that I never really played before - started ladder like 3 weeks ago and so far have a solid javazone.
I was thinking about a shapeshifting druid and was wondering if this is viable and for what.
I assume you want to get Metamorphosis (?) and will use Fury and wolf?
From what I read you can be a viable single target killer - any other items/runewords to aim for or to target?
I don't really want to play elemental druid as the playstyle is probably very similar to sorc.

Can be used to make Runewords:
TL;DR
Fury: Skill Werewolf
1) casual jalal > meta
The Reaper's Toll > Breath of the Dying Thunder Maul > Death Silver-Edged Axe
2) minmax meta buff -> jalal or pure meta
Death Decapitator ~= botd > reaper against no and low phys res monsters. Reaper gets better above ~25% phys res thanks to Decrepify.
3) ubers Death + Metamorphosis, if you can max your resists.
Overall the most comfortable play = The Reaper's Toll ( Decrepify and Decrepify + Bone Break makes for easy farming anywhere while being the highest overall DPS of them all after decrep trigger)

so you should always use jalal and not meta? Cerberu's bite also worse than Jalal? Interesting.
I mean, if you find a base with +3 Fury: Skill and +3 Heart of Wolverine, use it over Jalal's Mane.
Metamorphosis is great thanks to the buff it gives...but the buff can be maintained without it being equipped after.
