Post patch ancients

So pre patch my paladin could do Colossal Summit without Treachery buff, and one time I even forgot to equip any armor at all. Post patch I was getting instakilled by the fire Whirlwind.

But I've discovered a new tech. It's cheap and makes colossals easy to do again.

The trick is Guardian Angel. I upgraded it with the cube, and socketed it with an Um. With the rest of my gear and charms I make sure I have 290 resist all. Even with the summit debuff I have 90 resist all. While my Smite dps does take a hit from lacking Fortitude, 90 resist is more than twice as effective as 75. (And I actually have over 90 because of paladin aura passive.

Other gear I added for this is Dwarf Star, thundergods, and ravenfrost which I always have on.

Paladin is level 88 with a single point in Smite

I forgot to proc Fade when I tried them post patch and mega died. With Fade it was fine but I had to kill Talic first.

Oh yeah I should mention that I do prebuff with Fade now. Its needed to get to 300 resists

Yeah normally I have overstacked resists with Fade (mainly fire and lightning, with fire at 81 and light at 95 from gear/skills). With Fade proc it wasn't too bad, but I could tell I was getting hit pretty hard still. Without Fade, man, they were taking 2/3 of my HP at a time and eventually I just got hit by too many things at once.

I saw somebody claim that the total damage of fire tornadoes from Uber Talic is 10k, so if you happen to be so close to eat most of them without fire resistance maxed, it might one-shot you.

Edit:
Fire res should be overcapped to 280+.

Before this current gear set up, I was dying instantly when trying to recover my body. As in, before I could even load the level when taking the portal

i forgot to swap out Andariel's Visage back to Griffon's Eye on my self wield Infinity zon once and still managed to get the fire guy last somehow

I am close to having my first smiter build ready for my first colossal fight.

Am I correct in thinking that you upgraded Guardian Angel to a Hellforge Plate? That makes the strength requirement 196 vs 118. Do you think that trade off is really worth it and/or necessary?

You're probably correct that it's not worth it although with Exile it is a fair but of armor.

I had the str already because I made the mistake up upgrading my gface a while ago

even before the patch seemed almost impossible with my almost perfect Fireball/ Hydra sorc

just self wield Infinity Nova ES

interesting.. even if es consumes like 85% of dam, and res is -100, doesn't Talic deal like 4k * 0.15 * 2 = 1.2k dam, and it could one-shot the sorc?

and Nova deals what, like 4k dam? so even at at max res reduction it's ~100 charges to kill an ancient (and you probably won't always hit all three?)

and last question - did you understand definitively whether Conviction works on them or not?

im not 100% sure on the Conviction question- i thought it was different than meph and that it does work on uber ancients- I would imagine it does since it doesn't take that long to kill them

thanks! now I'm professionally rattled that the best fire sorc wasn't as good and the best self wield Infinity zon needs like 50 potions per five runs
I'm really not sure about Conviction - they certainly don't get the mark from the aura, and my impression is that Madawc takes approximately as long to kill as the other two.. suggesting Conviction doesn't work??

My merc insta-dies so I also chug pots for mana. I would assume that Hydra/ Fireball should be better since Nova isn't really great damage for bosses, but I guess Energy Shield is what keeps me from dying, and Uber Tristram is even easier. Maybe Energy Shield Hydra? But I guess they move so fast that Hydra would probably never hit. I could probably respec from Nova to Charged Bolt and it would be easier, but no reason to.

Also note that offline it is much harder than online (due to monster regen differences), so testing via hero editor isn't a great comparison

Last time I tried with my zealot and it was just impossible. I kept dying again and again so I asked someone for help.

Then I respec to smiter. Uber Tristram is now super easy (no need rejuvs) so I feel like trying the ancients again. Do you think resists are the Key? I can get to 300% if I replace highlord with Mara and G-face with Kira guardian. Otherwise I use usual gear (CoH, Grief, HoZ, Thundergod, two ravenfrosts and dracul´s grasp). I feel like trying it again, but don´t want to loose statues

In my estimation you should be fine with 300 res. But for safety you can ask someone to stand by and hop in if you run into problems.
