But to answer your question in more detail, 1-2 socket armors are not worth anything since you cannot give them more sockets and you can't make any top runewords.
Look for 3-4 socket armors. Typically you want a 3 socket Mage Plate or Archon Plate. THESE are worth something. Or 4 socket ethereal elite armors for the Act 2 Mercenary.
