Description

Beyond the respectable if modest defensive suite of Faster Hit Recovery and All Resistances, Gheed's Wager is noteworthy for offering up to 20% Faster Cast Rate (similar to Arachnid Mesh). For casters, the -X% to Enemy Magic Resistance is simply icing on the cake for those characters (Hammerdins, Bone Necromancers, and Miasma Warlocks) that happen to appreciate it.

Apart from M'avina's Tenet, this is the only Belt that grants Faster Run/Walk.

In addition, the combination of -X% to Enemy Magic Resistance and Extra Gold from Monsters could be of interest to a Berserk-er.

With good rolls, it is probably best in slot for a Goldfind barb. Goldwrap has a little bit more Gold find but lacks FCR, FHR, FRW and the minus Enemy Magic Resistance helps if your Goldfind Barb uses Berserk.

The "greatest Faster Cast Rate percentage of any belt" is actually a tie with Arachnid Mesh 😉

Consider this item's strength requirement when you consider it as an option as a +20% FCR Belt! As a Troll Belt with no -req, you need 151 strength to wrap this around your tummy. No problem if you already plan on holding up a Monarch, but otherwise this may be the only superheavy equipment you wear.

Arachnid Mesh, on the other hand, only needs 50 strength.

Gheed's Wager is aptly named for the staggering number of variables found on the item. The probability of an unidentified unique Troll Belt being a truly perfect Gheed's Wager is 1 in 142,896,160.

Just picked this up off terrorized Andariel.

Can be very useful for many builds looking to hit FCR & FHR breakpoints. Can potentially open up other item slots that might otherwise require FCR/FHR to hit desirable breakpoints. And the +all res definitely helps too.

Another comment mentions the odds of a perfect roll being 142,896,160 (1 in 142 million). If you want a perfect ethereal version, assuming ethereal drops 1 in 20, the odds jump up to 1 in 2,857,923,200 (1 in 2.9 billion).

This is still significantly more common than a perfect ethereal Tomb Reaver which has a 1 in 129 billion chance of rolling.

I remember reading somewhere that with the way LoD item generation worked, its possible that not all iterations of items like this with many different possible rolls can drop, so unless this was fixed in D2R, it's possible that it's impossible for perfect Gheed's Wagers and Tomb Reavers to drop. Even if it is possible, it's unlikely that they ever have or ever will drop for anyone.
