Description

Hi there fellow oldfarts.
I am quite sure at least half of you started to play this awesome game around year 2000 same as me. Back then there were no runewords, no charms. Then came LoD, 2 new characters, runewords, charms etc. I had no internet, had no idea about different runewords, about different unique items, about horadric recipes, breakpoints, etc etc. There were not many people around me who played this game too and when someone did he probably knew even less than me. I think I knew only that sometimes when I put 3x some items in the
Horadric Cube
, I can get 1 better, like gems, runes and rejuvs, nothing else.

I can quite remember how difficult the game was without propper informations and that this game was quite difficult to beat even on Normal game. My "favorite" boss to looking for loot was
Blood Raven
, probably because she was the only one I could kill without dying, or at least not that many times (of course she never dropped anything usefull, but I didn't know what items existed, let alone what
Blood Raven
could drop. :D ). In NM I probably always died somewhere in act 1 so many times that I realized it is not possible to play this game on such difficulty.

Times changed a lot and its very funny now how with propper backache, some D2 knowledge and of course the possibility to trade, its much easier to finish this game on Hell or even beat
Uber Tristram
or Summit than back then with my poor Amazon with very random skills and the magic worst rags and bow try to beat the nightmare.

So how were your beginnings? Did you have the access to internet or knowledge how to do this and that, what and where trying to find some good loot or you were on the desperate path same as me?

This is my story from two years ago. You have the topic here: forums/finally-i-made-it-t1498474.html

It all starter in 2009 when I began playing Diablo 2 - Lord of Destruction on my old PC. My first character was a Paladin. It was a pleasant game and seemed quite easy I may say (at least Normal and Nightmare). At that time I hadn't had internet access at home and I was playing offline. I didn't had all the knowledge I have today about the game's mechanics, synergies and point allocation and all good stuff that make the end game items so powerful. I was unaware of runewords and saw the runes quite useless (only some minor improvements over the
Perfect Gems
when socketing).

As I said, Normal and Nightmare were easy peasy but when I reached Hell I felt the effect of poorly points allocation on different almost useless spells. I barely finished Act One and then I hit wall at the very beginning of Act Two.
The story was like that: Exit town, merc died instantly at the first pack of Dung Soldier s and I followed him seconds later. Resurrect merc, exit town, died again in seconds, resurrect, died, I went bankrupt and that was the end of the game for the next 15 years. Never played again until last Easter when the Passion reignited. The old PC is at my mother house in the country side and I'm not going there to often or have time to play.

I then bought the D2 Resurrected and played a lot since then, maybe too much (if Battlenet had a time counter like Steam I think I would be worried about that time spent on the game). I managed to level a
Hydra
Sorceress to 99 and now I'm on course to reach the same level with her cousin, Paladin, now level 97.

Last week I was visiting my mother and played again continuing my first char's journey that finally got to the end reaching level 84 when killed
Baal
. A journey that lasted 15 years and 3 days (5th of June 2009 - 8th of June 2024). At the exact 15 years mark I was at World Stone Keep 2 but took a couple of days break, until June, 8.

At Resurrected I'm right now at 93% of Holy Grail (502 of 539 items found) and after I'll reach level 99 with my Paladin I guess I'll play a Necromancer or Assassin.

My first playthrough was with necro back when d2 came out in 2000. He just looked so cool on char selection screen.
I barely got to act 2 normal and couldn't progress because of the shit build.
No internet so back then so no info whatsoever. That was pre 1.10 patch so no skill synergies either.
When LoD came out i tried Druid and got to act 5 hell with shapeshifter but couldn't finish it. That didn't stop me though so i tried different chars until i beat the game for the first time with zealer pala thanks to my bro that was heavily into the game and had an offline community to share knowledge.
Though first time i played Barb or Amazon was just a couple of years ago on d2r since I didn't find them interesting back then and gotta say I've grown to love both classes...
I have a couple of high level chars right now and some good runewords, but am still yet to beat the game with Assassin :D
Shouldn't be too hard especially since Mosaic can be made on non-ladder now (I've never been into ladder)

ive played diablo from the beginning , the first game
but i never knew about runewords or crafting or even trading and such since getting back into d2r this year after a 2 year hiatus . couldnt figure out why my pc wouldnt let me play, background start up applications needed to be disabled

always liked this game (diablo 2), always will

stay a while and listen to the corpses explode

will take offers of
rals
pamys
prubys
Junk Jewels

Holy shiii that was a hell of a story. It almost brought tears in my eyes

Fortunately or not my first experience with d2 was not LoD , but two mods “underground” and “zy-
El
” . I was very young and dont really understand what Im doing and cant remember much . When I on first time tried clear d2lod I was lil bit dissapointed “where all this crazy mobs from very start?” :) . I picked barb … and after few weeks of evening playing session I stacked on phis immune ghosts . Back then in my head scenario when I just leave mobs was missed . So I tried again and again to kill them , spending on each for 5 minutes or so ( I guess I had lil bit of elemental damage somewhere) . I stop playing after it and come back only like 10 years later when I randomly found Llamas playthough on youtube . And only after that I understood how good the raw game is .

Started playing D1. Then played D2 shortly after when it was released. I was terrible and my internet connection was terrible. Dial up. Back then there was little information available and what information there was, was far more difficult to get. Again dial up internet.

I recall playing the game with my friends in high school. All of us lagging horribly except for the one guy that had a T1 connection.

Dying from lag was frequent. Even so I was completely addicted to this game. Eventually LOD came out which was cool.

At some point I got a drivers license and my priorities changed. By the time I came back to gaming frequently D2 was antiquated.

Then D3 came out! I took the day off from work for release day. Didn't get to play a single minute that day since the servers were crashing, couldn't even login. I played for a couple hours later that week and...never played the game again after that.

Two years ago I was made aware of D2R. I almost didn't get it because I knew I would waste way too much time playing it. But alas I couldn't resist and here I am. The only game I've played in the past two years. I'd say I've got at least a few more before I move on.

Always accepting
Worusk's End
and
Korlic's Pain
statues for trades. Also accept keys for trades.

My quest began in 1996 in a fraternity house in college. One of my fraternity brothers introduced me to D1 and I’ve been hooked ever since. Warlock has reignited my interest in playing and the score still takes me back in time

Oh yes, Diablo 1. I played it all day long on my bricky notebook, I think it was IBM ThinkPad 700. Even when traveling with my parents in car, running with trackpoint and almost shat my pants when I found Butcher. That was hardcore.

That is awesome :D I never played any melee character back then because I played every rpg with ranged characters. On the other hand, my friend always played only melee characters, so we always tried our own way. So I was playing only amazon and sorc, I think I tried also assassin, so maybe it was not about ranged characters but about females, haha.

As I said, my main was bowazon but I was extremely stupid and was looking only for items with "Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items" I had like Zero resistances, Zero life, max dexterity and some MF. Because who needs life and resistances when you can deal massive 10-15 dmg with random bow? "Surely I will find very soon a lot of awesome magic items and the game will be easier." - NOT

I remember we found some list a years later with runewords, but only runewords, we didnt know about the rarity of different runes and I dont know why but I can remember I wanted to make Chains of Honor, though I have no idea why this and not Enigma for example. I realized that Countess drops some random runes so I was running her all day long and was so angry that there is no
Um
,
Ist
or
Ber
, probably not even
Dol
, lol.
